| 1442987 | 2017-12-05 21:03:00 | Lets get another opinion or 2 "At Pwn2Own 2017, an event where hackers exploit devices to win prizes and show tech companies what patches they need to make, Edge came off as the least secure browser, with hackers successfully exploiting it five times. Chrome was the most secure as it wasn't hacked at all" phefttttttttt. Hacking Big deal. Theres a LOT more to security than just being unable to hack it. There are plenty of results where Edge beats Chrome and FF hands down in other areas. What is it with some techs these days :groan: - instead of actually fixing a problem, side step it -- I Call it bloody lazy or unskilled ;) |

Good example: printers . Spend well over an hour to try & resolve an printer issue , get nowhere . Sometimes need to Cut your losses and admit the thing isnt worth the cost of your time (cost to the customer) . If we were being honest, fixing the issues would be fixing bugs in the software & OS that causes issues, anything else IS a workaround. Long gone are the days of 'fixing': re-writing bios code, stripping & repairing keyboards & floppies , stripping and repairing monitors , hardware repairs on low end printers . |

| 1442989 | 2017-12-05 21:54:00 | Thanks w-tech, the Search problem is now resolved and the weird behaviour in Edge seems to be a mouse issue. Although I've tried another one which gave the same results, the track-pad (it's a laptop) behaves correctly so I'll continue searching. 1101, your words "Its default search will put bogus hits before legit sites, leading less than savvy users god knows where" may be true; I don't know because my "default search" within Edge is Google. Isn't Chrome a Google product? Damn, I thought I'd done the right thing by going with Google instead of Bing  And, "BTW , when the garage tells me my car isn't worth fixing , I accept (and ignore) that advice rather than ranting back at them", are rather prophetic. I did ignore your advice and proceeded to fix it with help from another on this forum :) Have a nice day. |

Depends on the person and what the actual problem is. MANY techs cant be bothered, I still call it lazy. I personally give my customers options if its the case, and the pro's and Con's of both then let them decide. Re Edge -- The op has replied I see - looks like its NOT edge, but a mouse problem, so nothing wrong with Edge. As you'll know, sometimes unless you have a computer in front of you its not always easy to offer a solution /fix, when you have the computer its obvious sometimes. Hardware -- Sure depending again on what it is, cheap printer, not usually worth it. But then theres other times, WAY to many people (and some Techs) simply cant be bothered fixing Laptops. MANY simply say replace them. Hell I got quite a few here that I've been given, only one is powerful, haven't brought a new laptop since 2003, one is only just over a year old, the memory was faulty, which caused system corruption. I told the person, I'll change the memory, fix Windows and away it goes - but nope, they went and brought a New one, said If I wanted the old one its mine other wise its in the bin. Sweet, 15.6", i7 with 6GB memory 1TB drive, fresh install goes good as gold. :) |
