1444182 2017-12-30 04:48:00 I run my lounge fan almost 24/7. The label on the back of it rates it as 40w. Does that mean that it only uses as much power as a 40 watt light bulb? Greg (193)

1444184 2017-12-30 05:49:00 That was easy :) A watt is a watt regardless of what's using it.

40W x 24h = 960W/H per day, round it up to 1KW/H and call it 25c a day or whatever you pay for power where you are.

1444188 2017-12-31 00:25:00 We have 4. Lounge, and one for each bedroom. Not 24/7 but getting a fiar bit of use. Oh well, light bulbs have been changed to LED now so it all balances out. piroska (17583)

Simple fan cooling if positioned correctly is a great and economical way of cooling. My fan is located midway between an open window each in the lounge and kitchen, which causes a pleasant cool flow in what would otherwise be sauna-like temperatures in these two areas.

1444190 2018-01-01 09:09:00 I don't need a fan right now. It's snowing.

Look at all the Wattage I'm saving.

1444191 2018-01-02 01:12:00 If a fan is rated at 40 watts how can it be proved to show that it actually uses 40 watts? it might be the upper limit, rather than a constant output, so it may only use say 80% of it's (upper) rating. What about auto speeds, and manual lower, mid, and high speeds -which might also affect power output. kahawai chaser (3545)
