I'd really appreciate some advice on the following :-

Can any of you recommend a software program (free) that will monitor a home network of 4 computers and a couple of tablets? I've tried a couple and had problems trying to set up any of them ... even the "3 easy steps" one.

I am a virgin when it comes to networking, so I'd appreciate it if didn't hurt me with anything to big ... or complicated. The computers are all on wireless connections through a Spark HG695b fibre modem which will allow me to set limits on speed and allocation of bandwidth for individual computers, but won't tell me individual bandwith used and time it's connected. :(

Lights ... I've watched a couple of movies about the "Dark Net" recently and have had problems getting in or on to have a look around ... if anyone knows where the light switch is, I'd appreciate knowing it's location

Thanks in advance ...

1443382 2017-12-14 05:39:00 The problem is that to monitor what you want the monitor needs to be running on a gateway machine that all the traffic passes through.

If your router (your current gateway) doesn't support that then you're really out of luck.

There are various programs that monitor such info (NetworkX, NetMon, and many others) but you'll need to run them individually on each client, and they will only show that clients data.

It could be done if you get a router that supports custom firmware (Gargoyle or it's successor - I'm out of touch with that really), or else you could set up a separate PC running one of the distro's that specialise in being a gateway/firewall - but that's probably more work than you're looking for.

Be very careful, the darknet is a wild frontier!
