1442322 2017-11-21 21:50:00 I need to replace my current b/w laser printer and I've decided if I'm going to do it I'll get a colour one.

Any recommendations?

My needs are:
I want a laser printer, not inkjet
Mostly b/w, some colour
Decent resolution 600dpi minimum
Networkable
Duplex capable
Price is not unlimited but I'm prepared to pay for quality
Speed is not a major issue

Don't want a Brother (I already have one, but he's in Sydney :) )

Any gotchas I should be aware of?

1442323 2017-11-21 21:58:00 It's not the price of the printer that you have to worry about with a colour laser printer. Some colour laser printers, can have more than 1 toner cartridge whatever you call it

And some of these arent cheap. Thats a gotcha that you have to be aware of

1442324 2017-11-21 22:11:00 Yes, I am aware of that. I'm not expecting to use a huge amount of colour so the toner cost shouldn't be a major factor - but having separate b/w and colour cartridges certainly is. Tony (4941)
1442325 2017-11-21 23:44:00 What's wrong with Brothers ?? I wont use anything else these days, only problem I have ever had is when they stop printing, but cant blame the printer if I forgot to put in more paper :p

Had a Lexmark, real nice colour laser printer, but the toner prices were outrageous.

Wouldn't touch Canons -- enough said on them.

Theres always the KYOCERA -- www.kyoceradocumentsolutions.com.au

Or the OKI's

www.oki.com

Really depends on the budget available and toner prices.

Yep , pick a printer, check toner costs (per page) . New models every year, so may be hard to get recommendations here on current models, and a single recommendation
isnt a good sample size :) Just google search for reviews of the laser you are interested it.
Also , check expected life & cost of drums (may be several)

my 2c
I would avoid HP , just as there software/drv can be pretty bad . Bad to the extent the otherwise working printer had to be replaced with another brand
Lexmark, just avoid . dont ask :-)
Kyocera, check price of the drums. Sure long life, but if one somehow gets damaged .....

Do color lasers still have a transfer belt ? If that fails could be a write off .
Factor in that after a year, it could be write off rather than repair or even write off rather than replace drums .

Are there any particular advantages with LED vs Laser?

1442328 2017-11-22 05:47:00 We have a Brother, not wifi but is network enabled, its has colour and blank toner. 2 years old and still on the originals. gary67 (56)
1442329 2017-11-22 07:26:00 Is that separate cartridges for each colour, or all-in-one? Tony (4941)
1442330 2017-11-22 11:31:00 You didnt really specify the environment or how much you'd be printing, for personal use Kyocera aren't too bad if they run. If commercial use, normally leasing is a better alternative. Kame (312)
1442331 2017-11-22 17:36:00 Purely personal - and not huge volumes these days.

Are you implying Kyocera are unreliable?
