684258 2008-07-01 18:25:00 Im not after a mag bash, but is it just me or has the mag changed too much?

The only I really read now are the game reviews and just browse through the latest gadgets. The articles seemed to be going Mac or just go on about random stuff that isnt about anything.

Even some of the layout is odd, like 2 stories seemed like 1 to look at.

Is this the result of the survey?:illogical

That might be because of the survey, more Macs in use by the general population and that it is fairly standard for any decent magazine to refresh its layout design every 12 months or so. I haven't bought the July issue yet although I have the June issue and I thought the layout was certainly improving over the last issue that I bought. They seem to have made a better choice of fonts too - didn't like the last combo much.

684260 2008-07-01 19:04:00 Yea, Im going off the May & June, it just isnt cutting it for me. Maybe the writers are running out of stuff to write about? rob_on_guitar (4196)
684261 2008-07-01 19:21:00 H'mmm too much emphasis on big tv's and that sort of stuff for me it's supposed to be a computer mag, don't mind the MAC stuff even though i'm not into them, more ways to use Linux would be nice it can be a steep learning curve otherwise. gary67 (56)
684262 2008-07-01 21:51:00 It is shortly to be re-launched as NZ Toyworld, full of stuff about phones, tvs, Macs and stuffed animals. R2x1 (4628)
684263 2008-07-01 22:34:00 Yes,

Pick up a copy of APC magazine and you will find much more indepth articles, hows to, software hardware, trends etc.

PC World has become very light weight in content.

684264 2008-07-01 22:48:00 Agree.

When i got the June copy after not buying a PCWorld for some time, i found myself at the back page in a few minutes.

It seemed to of been fattened out with boring rubbishy articles.

684265 2008-07-01 22:55:00 I stopped buying it when I found I had to watch my spending at the end of last year. Didn't think it was good value for money.

Haven't really missed it.

684266 2008-07-01 23:10:00 Now I'm not usually one that rubbishes any mag because I think you will always find something that you can read. This month, however, the readable stuff for me personally can be confined to 2 x A4 pages so I'm also pretty disappointed. Soooooo, I will NOT subscribe (got a sub offer in the mail) and flick through the mag next month before I decide to buy or not - and for me, that is quite dramatic

I will have to try the APC or whatever though - did read it some years ago but I found PCWorld, in the good old days, to be much better. Now? I don't know.

684267 2008-07-02 00:07:00 I stopped subbing when I realised that alot of the content was from the pcworld.com website, not locally sourced/written.

I saw an article once on the pcworld.com website that was republished in PCW NZ and felt a sense of deja-vu! I'd bookmarked the link, so went back and... it was the same - word-for-word!

Also alot of the thing like "CK's Broadband Diary" and Geoff's column is (at least partially) recycled from the blogs of the editors during the month on the PCW NZ website.

And THEY TOOK AWAY DUMB TERMINAL! Now all we get is a webpage that's updated every few months... :groan:

See what I mean?
