683786 2008-06-30 00:39:00 Have you guys noticed when you're installing stuff now, that instead of a proper progress bar/graph (so you have some idea of how long you have to wait), you get a damn 'throbber' (like the Cylons from Battlestar Galactica) which gives you no information at all.
Seems to be the latest fashion, Vista seems to have started it; dont like it, dont want it :rolleyes:.

683787 2008-06-30 01:20:00 Yeah, and I've also noticed in Vista that the Local Area Connection indicator that sits in the system tray doesn't actually light up as it's sending/receiving. Call me old-fashioned, but I find that useful sometimes!! :badpc: nofam (9009)

You can change that - I missed it too! :p

I can't test it right now, but I think you need to right click on it, and select 'turn on activity animation' or something like that.

But yeah, quite annoying indeed. I think perhaps they use it when there is not really any progress able to be calculated - it's just there to indicate that 'something' is happening.

Maybe turning it off was Microsoft's idea of 'streamlining' their new OS!!

Maybe there's a performance hit that they wanted to mitigate . . . :D

683793 2008-06-30 03:03:00 I think SuperSpywareCleaner and in the old days, Ad-Aware also did not show the progress bar. I like to see it happening - e.g. I like Spybot a lot because it shows the minute details.
