You think thats bad? Husband has a diesel ute. It used to be cheap once.

Road user charges for diesel-powered vehicles were increased between 7.5 percent and 10 percent in an "absolute bombshell" announcement, said Road Transport Association area manager Peter Goodwin.

The increase ranges from $32.80 per 10,000km for a small diesel car, to $198 for a 23-tonne truck. Registration for diesel cars increased by $50.

684514 2008-07-02 02:28:00 Bear in mind the figures in that table exclude GST, whilst the graph includes it. So it's actually around 80c / litre.

That RUC raise was absolute ****ing bull****.

684515 2008-07-02 02:46:00 What annoys me is that over the last few years there have been lots of small 1 or 5 cnet sincrease in this and that.

Then we are told that all the orad taxes will go towards roads, and that they are spending this billion and that billion on roads. Yet I cannot see much results for it.

Just Tauranga Harbour bridge and Northern Motorway extensions.

684518 2008-07-02 03:05:00 Listen to Roddy Boy . He's the only sane voice here .

Have a look at the links he has provided .

It does seem, though, that some tax relief might help, although it would only be temporary decrease and simply putting off the inevitable .

The government says that the tax is used to build roads and other transport projects . Believe them if you will, but I wonder why some projects have been on and off the go for the past 40 years or so . Auckland's motorway system is one example . I'm quite certain that it will not be finished in our lifetime . :groan:

684519 2008-07-02 03:46:00 All energy is fair game as far as tax rake off is concerned. That includes gas and electricity and the higher the pre GST price rises, the more GST rake off. Marnie (4574)
