Sigh... I frequently suffer from the same problem - It feels good to inflict it on someone else for a change!!! :D Edit - Wow - a thread can get off topic very fast around here! Wainui! /scolds ;) |

| 684079 | 2008-07-01 00:05:00 | I don't know why people keep putting down Acer??? I have two Acer laptops here and my parents each have an Acer as well  Never had a problem with any of them. . Lucky you. But thats what users always say.........my xxxx didn't have a problem. No, its not 100% failure rate, but it is far too high for my liking. Never taken one of their laptops apart but the desktops have nasty hardware in them. Like ECS motherboards. Acer is the number brand I see in here for faulty hardware. When you have used a few hundred of each brand, then you can report back on the reliabilty and quality of the various brands. |

Well since I have been working in the IT industry for 15 years or so I think I can say what brands are good and what aren't. Acer desktops aren't the best yes and they did have a real bad run of laptops about 8-9 years ago. (TM500 series) But since then they have improved a lot. Where I used to work we were the Authorised Acer repair centre for Whangarei/Northland and we didn't get a lot of faulty units considering the number that we sold (we had the contract to supply Northland Health and they always requested Acer laptops) plus what other shops in the region sold. I could say the same about your precious Asus laptops. For the amount that we sold we saw a lot come back for repair. |

| 684082 | 2008-07-01 00:45:00 | I think Acer lappies are what they are - they occupy a price point in the market that most manufacturers stay out of (for good reason IMHO), so if you buy a $700 unit with Vista (a la this) (www.dse.co.nz), you can't expect it to be quick, or as reliable as a good HP or ASUS etc in the $2000+ range. Ya gets what ya pays for right? :2cents: Sorry CyaBro - I didn't mean to offend anyone with this post - I'm glad you've had a good run with Acer machines!! |

Maybe they OEM for Acer as well? |

The Older Dells (Black Towers) has ECS boards in them, although they didn't have any brand name on them. Heaps of those died. I don't know if dell still use ECS boards or not. One would hope they don't. |
