| 684709 | 2008-07-02 19:40:00 | :) When I start my computer in the morning (using vista) I have alot of chatter in the background and it takes 30 to 60 seconds to load each page of the programmes I running (eg word, outlook express). When I turn all the programmes off and have checked Task Master, it says the CPU usage is 100% even though no programmes are running. Is this Microsofts internal file checker working and if so how do you turn the hugely annoying thing off!! I would only want to use it maybe once a week. :thanks | penguin2 (13180) | ||

MS 'file checker' doesn't work like that. ;) Post a HijackThis (www.trendsecure.com) log, and look in the task manager and see which process is using 100% CPU. If you can't see the process in the standard task manager, download Process Explorer (technet.microsoft.com) and use that. What Anti Virus/Anti spyware software do you use? Some programs have a habit of doing a scan on startup, which can sometimes use a lot of CPU. |
