684181 2008-07-01 05:42:00 I have an uncle who is a lawyer. Went to visit him in his new office shortly after he started practicing. (you'd think they had enough practice, charging like that!)

After admiring his plush new office, I asked him, "How much did all this cost you? You certainly look as though you are doing well." He nodded. "How much do you charge?"

He replied, "$180 for three questions - you've had two already.":groan:

684183 2008-07-01 08:24:00 Hell, thats cheap. I went to invest a few coins with Guardian Trust last week, reading through the investment advisors declaration, I see any work he performs can be charged out at $185 an hour. John W (523)

684185 2008-07-01 11:31:00 Why are lawyers so expensive? It is the poor doctors who keep getting blondes each bringing in an apple a day that must safely buried. R2x1 (4628)
684186 2008-07-08 08:51:00 Interesting story. Initially I thought it was a rip-off too but having dealt with brain-injured people, it can take a lot of time and care to ensure they understand the advice they are receiving. Also seemed like the firm had tried to explain and the client had agreed to the fees for the case at the beginning.

FYI lawyers, doctors, engineers, architects, accountants etc all work on very high hourly rates. In fact so do plumbers and electricians these days - good on them. The rates reflect the cost of years of education and the expenses of running a business. In my career I have seen the number of professional people grow and they all seem to earn a living - and even more overseas.
