813883 2009-09-25 22:39:00 I have a web site, www.minibottlelibrary.com, and an unusual problem. The site is for figural miniature bottles. I want to do a 'Theme' search for images on the site but cannot find any way to do this. All the image files are named to allow this ie. photos of jugs have 'jug' in the flie name, photos of bells have 'bell' in the file name etc. I would prefer that anyone could type in anything and get site links (or even better a thumbnail page) but I would settle for building an index. I could do an index manually but there are over 12,000 images and growing! Can anyone help? minizv (15269)

site:www.minibottlelibrary.com filetype:jpg jug
Edit: Note that you'll need to run that through image search, not regular search - otherwise you'll get no results. Image search should return a page of thumbnails.

813886 2009-09-26 04:58:00 site:www.minibottlelibrary.com filetype:jpg jug

Thanks for the help but this does not work. I am fairly sure I have tried it before but did so again using site search (no good at all) and Image search. This produced some of the jugs on the site but nowhere close to all. It also produced false positives (ie. files without jug in their name). I tried bell also but that was even worse!

Anyone got any other suggestions?

If you're wanting to limit it to *exactly* files with jug in the name, you'll need to use 'inurl:jug' rather than just 'jug'. If it's not displaying all the files, it simply means that your images aren't all saved somewhere that Google can find them (or they weren't the last time Google crawled your site).

Failing that, your only other real option is to install or write a search system specifically for your site.

813888 2009-09-26 05:23:00 Hi minizv. Neat. Is there anywhere where further information can be obtained about pictures/sets - such as the Air New Zealand set? Did I miss it? Scouse (83)
813889 2009-09-26 05:56:00 I realise this is off topic, but looking at that site, I noticed the name Erica Mulder.

I recall as a small child (no older than 6), visiting her house with my dad, who also collected miniatures.

The bottles didn't interest me, but her collection of old "spacies" did.

813890 2009-09-26 06:45:00 In line with Erayd, Google Site Search (specifically CSE (www.google.com) at Google Co-op), should work, as I have used in my sites. But will require require customization/optimization within the control panel (e.g. adding specific keywords, search only included sites, or the web/both, look and feel, advanced options, etc). Many web/blog owners embed Google site search, as it's easy to set up, otherwise contemplate a bit of programming for a search site... kahawai chaser (3545)

Erayd. Thanks for this, I can get it to work, although currently most images are not displayed. This will doubtless be because the site is only 4 or 5 months old. It displays files from some of the earliest directories that I uploaded. It is still a rather clumsy way of doing it though, especially if I have to wait months for Google to crawl the site.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Scouse. The site is a basic reference only. You will find and article on the Air NZ bottles on one of my other sites: www.minisnz.com If you want to email me with any specific questions I am happy to help: [edit: email removed]

The Bogan. Erica is still going strong, just had an email from her. Who was your dad?

Kahawai Chaser. I use site search on another of my sites but this only finds documents (as far as I am aware) not images.
