| 813655 | 2009-09-25 03:32:00 | Hi all, We are currently looking to deploy Windows 7 (from XP) in the next year or so. We will be using a similar imaging system to Ghost called fog (http://www.fogproject.org). I have discovered that sysprep 2.0 (that came on the XP CD) does not work with Windows 7 at all. I have tried the Windows 7 version of sysprep in C:\Windows\system32\sysprep, but that goes through the entire OOBE process again (and it runs again at every reboot!); all I want it to do is prompt for a computer name and reset the SID of the system. In the past we have used NewSID on Windows XP and that has worked (as far as I know). I've read that sysprep is preferred over this. It's an old-ish product (2005) so resetting Windows 7 SIDs it on a production network (~400-500 machines) irks me a little. Would NewSID work on Windows 7? If not, what SID-resetting software would you guys recommend?? TIA :) |

Have a read of this article (blog.brianleejackson.com) - tells you how to make a image to deply as you want. and These articles by MS (technet.microsoft.com(WS.10).aspx) I did it once in Vista - it was a pain in the butt, considering I was only going to be installing on a few PC's - so ened up singel installs - fun running back and forth - Obviously not a good idea for big deployments. |
