813411 2009-09-24 11:45:00 Anyone got this TV card going with linux? I'm looking at using Ubuntu. I've had a google & come up with not a lot so far.
I haven't installed anything (os or hardware yet) .
I'm using the pc to replace the video. I've got the sky decoder connected to a rca component splitter/amplifier & then 1 set of leads to the telly & the other to the pvr3000 & the pc to telly via hdmi. If I can I'd like to use linux, cos it's free & the underdog. I've had it running with windows 7. It's not all plain sailing with that & give you grief, so I figured I may as well try a linux distro & get the grief for free

813413 2009-09-25 03:03:00 Who makes the card? I'm guessing it's a Winfast Leadtek? Agent_24 (57)
813414 2009-09-25 08:08:00 Yes it's a Leadtek winfast pvr3000 deluxe Phil B (648)
813415 2009-09-29 22:08:00 Maybe it would just be best to give it a try and see what happens?

Have you considered a PVR style distribution like Mythbuntu or Knoppmyth?

813416 2009-09-30 08:49:00 I git mythbuntu last night & I'm going to give a go at the weekend. Probably Friday evening as I've got to make sure everything's working so I can record motogp & the superbikes Phil B (648)
813417 2009-09-30 08:54:00 Next month PCUser is doing an article on media centres & pvr software. They say they're not relying on windows. Could be interesting Phil B (648)
813418 2009-09-30 09:09:00 I wouldn't count on it working by this weekend, unless you seriously get into it as soon as possible.

If that card works on Linux, honestly, I have no idea.

813419 2009-09-30 09:25:00 It'll be ok. If it doesn't work I've got 2 other cards that work on kdetv. The reason I changed to windows more than anything was, the recording setup & use part of the linux software was rubbish, as of about 18 months ago. It's time for another go, surely they must have got it to a useable state now. Hopefully I'll get the 3000 card working so I can use the component input Phil B (648)
813420 2009-09-30 09:33:00 Which (Linux) PVR software were you using before?

I'd strongly recommend you take a look at MythTV - it's awesome, and has a great feature set, although it can be a real pain in the ass to set up if you're not familiar with it.
