686149 2008-07-07 22:45:00 Hi
Yesterday morning in the rain, I was waiting at a T intersection, approaching from the bottom of the 'T'. I was indicating to turn right, and got hit lightly from behind. I turned right and pulled over, expecting the other person to pull over with me too, but they buggered off.

What should I have done, get out of my car the moment they rear ended me, walk to their car and get their details? This would block up all the other cars behind me during peak time when people are trying to get to work.

Or should I have just done what I did, hope that they would pull over with me? It was raining so it wasn't very easy to see their plate number.

I have done that before. Eventually they get the idea and pull over. Things aren't the same as they were.

Oh, and get a tow bar. Make sure it sticks out as much as is legal. Works wonders when you get rear ended.

686151 2008-07-07 22:52:00 Ten years ago the action you took was the right one but these days I would recommend that you stay where the accident happened and swap details. bonzo29 (2348)
686152 2008-07-08 00:07:00 I confirm the benefits of a towbar, I had a similar experience to you.
Damage to my car zero, damage to the rear ender, they needed a new grill

Same here.

The guy who rear ended me was driving a done up Nissan, with a big flash HKS front mount intercooler.

He was not a happy chappy. His fault for following too close.

686155 2008-07-08 00:23:00 In Arizona, you pull your .44 Automag and slowly walk to the other car and ask to see their driver's license, insurance certificate and their registration.

If they don't speak English, ask to see their green card.

In California, you get YOUR people to call THEIR people

686157 2008-07-08 09:34:00 Of course these days you don't know if the "other party" is a rational human being . They may get stroppy and assult you :annoyed:

Of course the other thing about modern cars is they are soooo expensive to get fixed . A minor scrape which requires a paint job can be a crazy amount . This is why I still have a dent in my boot (yes insurance would have paid for it but it wasn't worth it in the end) .
