| 686093 | 2008-07-07 20:18:00 | I wish Arthur Miller were here alive to write this but..............in his absence I'll try although I believe that Willy Loman is still very much alive. I'll be Biff here..................... One of America's childhood icons was Bozo The Clown. He has assumed room temperature. (www.reuters.com) Now I know that many think some of the biggest US clowns get too much air-time...and I'm not gonna go there as I am sure any respondents can post and fill in the blanks themselves....but Bozo was just a minor player where so many congressmen and presidents are much more entertaining..even without a seltzer bottle. Respect for the dead aside, I personally didn't like Bozo..I think all clowns are a little scary and probably linked to my general fear of floppy shoes, red rubber noses and blue hair. Scary-ness isn't the issue alone; I think it's terribly demeaning to our creator to be a clown... lowering the status of humans to one of buffoonery or having almost arisen from alien space garbage or accidental evolutionary happenstance. Maybe that explains my fear of the blue hair and bony knuckles peeking through the spokes of steering wheels driving big Buicks and Lincoln Towncars on the streets of Hemet. There were supposed to be some shining examples of "good" clowns, Bozo being THE example here, and even other "masters of the art of clown-ship" but I never saw any positive social validation for being a clown. I even had a childhood revulsion to Clarabelle on the Howdy Doody Show from the black and white era of TV when I couldn't see the bad makeup and hair in living (wretched) color. |

| 686094 | 2008-07-07 21:00:00 | New Zealand has a good crop of clowns in government at the moment - soon to be ousted, we hope. Kiwis over a certain age would remember Crunchie the Clown (world-famous in New Zealand) from the 70's/80's.... The only other clown of any note that I know of is Krusty... :D |
