| 814006 | 2009-09-26 11:22:00 | I am in the process of building a new PC here are the specs i am considering: Case: Silverstone TJ10 ESA (already bought) PSU: ?? probably around 750w + prefarably modular CPU: Core i7 920 or Core i7 860 Motherboard: x58 - Asus P6T or p55 - Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5 or MSI P55-GD65 RAM: x58 - 6GB tri channel DDR3-1600 or p55 - 4GB dual channel DDR3-1600 GPU: ATI/AMD 4870 or 5850 (depending how prices settle) Optical: Blu-Ray reader + Dvd Writer Heatsink: Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme HDD: 1TB + 500GB (already have) The real questions here are whether to go with the i7920 or 860 which decides the rest. I will be overclocking to probably 3.6Ghz+. Also advice of PSU's Motherboards and RAM would be apreciated. |

| 814008 | 2009-09-27 03:37:00 | CPU: Core i7 860 GPU: ATI/AMD 5850 or (5870-if you can wait for price to come down some more/or can afford it now):D That set up is cheaper so you can save some money and still have a really great gaming pc.:drool Money saved could then be used for: 24'' lcd monitor HDMI 1920 x 1080P, gaming mouse, gaming keyboard, faster modem/router, a comfy chair for all night gaming is a must-or use a pillow/cushion on a chair.:D Motherboards MSI and Gigabyte are great mobo makers and I have used them both.:thumbs: Ram:Go for the fastest speed and timings you want to spend money on. -As time goes on better and faster cheaper ram will come along so not really a big concern as it is a easy upgrade to do later on when there are better ram about,ie. if you had to save some money then just get some generic good cheap brand ram for now and better ram later when you can afford it,and sell/give old ram to friend /family/trademe/etc. PSU:Modular is a must for me personally,Enermax,Corsair are what I have used and have both been great for me,check out there websites and see what you like.:) Check out www.pricespy.co.nz for computer parts prices you may be able to save some more money and/or get better parts cheaper. |

MSI -bleh., GPU: ATI/AMD 4870 or 5850 What?! With such other lovely hardware you want to skimp on the single most important component of the lot??!! Get the 5870 or a 4870x2. There's isn't a huge difference, but the 5870 has an edge on it slightly and leaves the Nvidia offerings in the dust now..... 5850 isn't even released.......and who cares anyway - it's for the lesser PCs or people who don't seriously game. |

| 814010 | 2009-09-28 01:01:00 | I think i am going to go for the Core i7 920. As far as cost goes there is very little in it both cpu's about $500 x58 mobo about $400 p55 mobo about $370. So the motherboard will probably be the Asus P6T unless anyone has any better alternatives around that price. They all seem pretty even in reviews but the P6T has a few extra features over the other $400 boards. As far as the GPU goes i was probably going to keep my 9600GT for a couple of months and see how the 5870 etc settles in price/performance then upgrade. So just a specific PSU and RAM to choose now. |
