| 813920 | 2009-09-26 01:22:00 | Hi! I recently ordered a new screen for my Dell M170 laptop. I ordered a: Dell XPS M170 Laptop LCD Screen 17" WUXGA(1920x1200) Matte Received it today and began to install it. Upon taking the old screen out, I unplugged the 30-pin locking connector at the top, as well as the pull-tab connector from the bottom. Upon placing the new screen in there, I re-connected the 30-pin at the top, but found out there WAS NO PLACE for the pull-tab connector to go back into. The old screen had a small panel at the bottom for that to go into, but this one doesn't. I started up the laptop without plugging the pull tab connector into anything and it showed my display very darkly but had no backlight, so I am assuming that little pull tab connector is for the backlight. The new screen I got looks just like the picture I attached. Is there something I am not understanding or am I just totally screwed here? |

BTW, it is not a good idea to run with no backlights connected as there is a high voltage generated and it can arc with no load. How do I know? Don't ask! Good luck with your mission. |

It is labeled as Inverter in this pic I am attaching. Also, the pull-tab connector I was referring to does not light the backlight, according to this diagram. Do I need to take the inverter off my old laptop screen and put it on the new one? How can I go about doing that? |

These need to be plugged into the inverter which produces high voltage AC to strike the flouro lights . If you took the inverter off with the old screen, then, yes, you indeed have to put it back so it can drive the new screen's back lights . 'Fraid I can't tell you how to do that as I don't know the arrangement . Basically it has to go back as it came out! |
