Pretty bad timing, considering it is probably Vodafones biggest weeks since they setup shop in NZ.

Vodafone defends against iPhone fury
Vodafone spokeman Kursten Shalfoon says the prices are sharp by New Zealand standards.

"The data plans are similar to 3G data prices that we already have in the market," he said. "And if you look at the 250MB plan, and all of its components, it's the cheapest plan in the market.

686270 2008-07-08 06:25:00 Ok question

www.vodafone.co.nz

Let say I choose the iphone 250 and follow by the 16GB model and at the bottum it says $699 and the monthly fee is $80

Is it $699 + $80x24= $2619 or is it $80x24-$699= $1221?

686271 2008-07-08 06:39:00 Still waiting for Paul Brislen to comment......<crickets>.......PauL?He said several weeks ago that he would be on holiday the week the iPhone was launched.

I hate polls like the Stuff poll, because it doesn't really address the issue most people are annoyed about: the price of the contracts and the fact that even if you buy it outright, you can not use it on prepay. How is a question about whether it has been overhyped relevant when it really hasn't even been hyped up here yet (other than a bit of media coverage yesterday).

But they have a monopoly on GSM, so there isn't any NZ standard on 3G GSM services. They should instead be comparing them to worldwide prices. I would fire their spin doctors for that explaination.

686274 2008-07-08 07:04:00 Vodafone are about to get hammered by 3 news and Campbell Live. vitalstatistix (9182)
686275 2008-07-08 07:17:00 The other thing is that in Europe etc the telcos paid heaps out-bidding each other to get their 3g bands from their governments.

New Zealand learned that lesson and limited the amount telcos could bid. So 3g should be CHEAPER in NZ than in Europe

686276 2008-07-08 07:19:00 You'd think Paul woudl be working today of all days. Even if so that he could buy an Iphone !

Any answer any queries ?

686277 2008-07-08 07:22:00 To buy one of the new Iphones for cash it is $900 NZ.

So Vodaphone are "subsidising" the cost price down to $199.

And making a packet on the way.

And don't forget that Apple have set the price of $199 everywhere ! not Vodaphone.
