Everyone making rubbish they expect you to replace every 5 minutes. Move manufacturing to China where they can make it for $1 and sell it for $1000. So all the countries that don't have manufacturing anymore - how do those consumers afford to buy this stuff? Combined with credit for everything = everyone (except China) is in the poo. Well China might be soon, when everyone stops buying the cheap rubbish. I was thinking what a crap time to have started a new PC shop........... |

| 685858 | 2008-08-28 08:40:00 | They repaired it, and i got it back. Same problem with the touchpad. Got a video this time. Problem was never fixed. Time to go back to DSE... Can you tell me if it was an Aspire 5520? I bought one of these, also at DSE Napier, and had the touchpad problem, with the pointer leaping randomly around the screen at intermittent times. Sometimes as soon as I opened the lid, other times maybe 30 mins apart and lasting from maybe 10 secs to a minute. Unfortunately, I put up with it for longer than the 14day return period that DSE allow. Calls to Acer help got me the usual half hour wait and the usual "reinstall the OS" - "oh, doesn't work, send it in for repair". But it gets worse. As I couldn't do without it while it went off for the usual 3 week repair period, I decided I'd buy another, send the dud for repair, and hand it on to my wife went it returned. Yes, you know what's coming. I took the dud in and picked up the new one, and lo and behold, the new one had the same fault. Circumstances at the time prevented me getting this one back in the 14 days, but I thought I'd just send it off for repair when the first one came back fixed. Yes, yes, you know again. The first one came back as "no fault found", but soon after I tried to use it, the problem was back. Clearly, a techie would try it for a minute, do a reinstall and send it back. He is unlikely to play with it until the intermittent fault turns up. So now I've got two with the same problem and no answers. I tried some other stuff, like changing the RAM, but no good. I thought it might be all the extra crap Acer loads laptops with, so I installed a vanilla copy of Vista, but no good. I searched for and updated all drivers, but no good. In the end, there seems to either be a fault with the Alps touchpads, or the drivers are not compatible with Vista. All in all, Acers are a no-go zone for me from here on. If anybody has found a fix for this, I'd love to hear it. Or if others with the same prob would like to try some group complaint action, let me know. Sorry about the novel. |

| 685860 | 2008-08-28 09:28:00 | I'm with wainuitech You have had it for 4 months, I'm sure DSE will send it for repair rather than replace, You have to understand that they don't know if it has been damaged by you, not saying that you have, but Customers can be careless. And with them looking at it, helps to eliminate user error and in that case will honor the warranty. We sell Acer and although they aren't the best brand, we have found them good for repairs. So I think you will be fine as far as that goes. Let them try and sort it and go from there. |

| 685863 | 2008-08-29 02:54:00 | Heres a Question - Was it DSE that looked at it, OR was it actually Acer ? If it were DSE - well enough said ;) but if it were acer then you should have been given an Acer service number, along with a full job sheet as to what was looked at /Done - Call Acer Direct and quote their Number see what they have to say. 0800 223 769 I've dealt with a few Acer Repairs, and when dealing with Acer directly, not the monkey in the middle, they have always been very good. |

X2. Don't trust DSE further than you can throw them. |
