2008-07-08 10:20:00 | They won't have any trouble selling them, They aren't expensive, and next to no one gives a rats arse about web crap. | Metla (12) | |
2008-07-08 10:25:00 | That would be ok if it was a top level plan. It sucks as an entry level plan. Vodafone are seriously over looking how much data will or would be consumed from web browsing and downloading of apps, music, watching stuff on youtube, emails etc I doubt they are overlooking that at all. They are quite happy for people to buy it at the low end plan, and then consistently go over their usage each month and pay through the nose again. They are banking on the fact that once someone has the phone, they'll keep paying, rather than say "bugger this" and ditch it. As Metla says it's just a phone. A very nice device, and with potential as a platform, but at those prices way outside my means to justify for a luxury.

2008-07-08 10:27:00 | I think you will be surprised. They will sell but they will get nowhere near the potential of sales that most people would be expecting with this release of the iPhone. If they had hit it right the iPhone would be likely sell out on or before the weekend finishes based on the fact that Vodafone only has limited supplies of them. I don't see that happening at these prices. | vitalstatistix (9182) | |
2008-07-08 10:34:00 | I'd imagine that Vodafone know exactly how to make money in the limited NZ market, and changing the entire approach and price structure to accommodate a phone just because its an Apple would be the height of stupidity. Sure it will strengthen their line up, sure the trend-setters will love it, But sales numbers will stay on the projected sales curve and Vodafone will rake in millions. With or without the iPhone.

2008-07-08 10:40:00 | That is the difference between a Telco and a product developer in a duopoly. In case you can't read R2, I am deflated because they "are" top of the line. That defeats the purpose of the whole excercise.

2008-07-08 10:58:00 | That is the difference between a Telco and a product developer in a duopoly. In case you can't read R2, I am deflated because they "are" top of the line. That defeats the purpose of the whole excercise. Basically Vodafone is a monopoly at the moment with the iphone, so they will charge what they can get away with. I say wait a few months for telecom to release it on their network, because it will no doubt be cheaper. Telecoms coverage will also be better during the contract term, as vodafones 3G coverage is still very poor. ALso other manufacturers are catching up on those features. The blackberry is still more usable as an email deveice as it has actual keys, and nokia are bringing out some very noce phones. Personally I would buy the handset alone, and use it on prepay, but vodafone are being too greedy and won't allow me to do this, as they want that passive monthly income too.

2008-07-08 11:00:00 | Keep an eye on tv1 wednesday morning i guarantee the breakfast program will review the imoan er iphone in all its glory but viewers will be putting up the middle finger at the price of the rip off plans that vodaphone have launched. | Hitech (9024) | |
2008-07-08 11:02:00 | iMoan ;)  ah TV1 Wednesday, I was thinking it was supposed to have been on today. Will keep an eye out for it. Don't worry about the competition, the app store will be open before the end of the week and so far no other mobile phone has an app store to complement it alhough I believe that Nokia has one in the workings. | vitalstatistix (9182) | |
2008-07-08 11:04:00 | Didn't the Vodafone muppet on TV3 say that they are bringing the iphone to NZ with plans starting from $50 per month? Which plan is this? According to their website the minimum is $80 per month. He however quoted the $50 plans several times, advertising a 'basket of minutes' for calling and 200 MB of data? He also said lets compare NZ plans with NZ plans, hello, there is only one NZ GSM provider capable of offering this phone. We have to compare NZs prices to the rest of the world.
