814989 2009-09-29 00:56:00 I have got a 40gig out of my old laptop and was wondering is there a way to connect it to a normal desktop PC?? convair (13650)

814991 2009-09-29 01:02:00 I assume it's an IDE (www.satacomputer.com) drive not SATA (www.satacomputer.com)?

You could get one of these (ascent.co.nz) (they are worth their weight in gold, have about 5 of them here use them every day, would recommend getting one they are always useful) or one of these (ascent.co.nz).

If it's SATA, it will just plug into the desktop PC like any normal 3.5" hard drive.

814992 2009-09-29 01:04:00 I think it is IDE, not a 100% sure though. convair (13650)
814993 2009-09-29 01:11:00 Do those hard drive cases just plug in like a normal USB drive? convair (13650)
814994 2009-09-29 01:18:00 Yep - just like a big fat flash drive. wratterus (105)

I've had too many of those adpators die. The enclosures are better.

How often do you use yours?

I've been using 2 for about a year and a bit now and they've never failed me..

We've got 5, 2 years, none dead (apart from the one I stood on, but that hardly counts.) :p

814998 2009-09-29 05:57:00 You just connect it up and use a screwdriver fasten the cover and plug into the USB - no software drivers required. Unless older than windows 2000. Nomad (952)
