| 688771 | 2008-07-14 08:32:00 | Hi Thought I would mention the great invention some Kiwi blokes have came up with. According to the Television News, these guys have managed to convert industrial waste gas, (yeah, the pollution kind), into petrol. There are a number of advantages to their invention. Obviously, less pollution, homegrown talent, cheap source means cheap petrol at the pump and no modification is required to the car. And I was just starting to feel sorry for you, petrol heads!! These guys must be on to a winner as the New Zealand Government has given them twelve million Dollar$ as a grant to help futher development. My question is this, I'm all for the taxpayer giving grants for great inventions like this but does this give us a share in the final product? After all, the big petrol Dollar$ will want to buy this process and New Zealand will miss out again. Can the New Zealand Goverment say no deal to overseas concerns grabbing this? Be very interested to hear your views BURNZEE |

If it is as successful in reality as it is on paper, I'm sure the big overseas company won't mind buying it with a huge chunk from their wallets. We''ll just see if our government is actually smart enough to handle the business properly. |

They also did not say how much waste gas etc is created and collectable in New Zealand and what percentage of our petrol use it would supply. But to say that these guys must be on to a winner because the government has given them 12 million dollars is nto really so, When does the government know how to give our money away to the right things ? or to things that work ! But I was very impressed when I saw the Steven Tindall and that Indian guy have backed them. That Indian guy has been backing alternative energy technologies in a big way for quite a few years. I hope they just license the technology to overseas companies so that we (NZ) keep ownership. The oil companies will still run the petrol stations and they could set up the refineries. And we will still need oil for lubrication, plastics, ink, drugs etc etc etc. |
