| 688668 | 2008-07-14 04:57:00 | NEW YORK - The U . S . government is signaling it wont throw a lifeline to struggling financial companies except for mortgage linchpins Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac marking a shift to a new and potentially more volatile phase of the credit crisis . Some of Wall Streets biggest investors believe there was another message in the governments announcement the rest of the financial sector seems unlikely to get a helping hand . Global banks and brokerages have already written down nearly $300 billion in soured mortgage investments a number projected to ultimately reach $1 trillion . The credit crisis has obviously entered into a new phase the government has one bailout left in them, and this is it, said Jeffrey Gundlach, chief investment officer of TCW Group in Los Angeles, which invests $160 billion . On Wall Street, Monday (that's tomorrow here or about 12 hours away for the Wall Street opening bell) could be a critical day, with investors quite nervous amid the uncertainty in the financial sector . Friday saw the Dow Jones industrial average dropping below 11,000 for the first time in nearly two years, and the overall market was down for the fourth week in a row . How much ya wanna bet that this drags the world markets down? Sorry y'all . |

| 688669 | 2008-07-14 06:23:00 | This news is the proof that american economists and neo-cons have been talking B.S. for about the last 20 years and this is the upshot of listening to them and acting on their advice. After all if you move your manufacturing and real generation of wealth off-shore and impoverish your blue collar workers then what do you expect in the end if you have any common sense at all? Well the s**t is just starting to hit the fan, much, much more to come, 25 years and more of abuse of sound economic rules is not going to be laughed off very easily. Coupled with the disastrous double reign of gw bush, another phenomenon which defies common sense, I say the usa is in for a very rough ride and this may be the end of their predominance in the world for quite a while. Good thing really, the rest of the world needs to grow up and stop listening to stupid economic ideas originating from usa these days. NZ I'm looking at you. |
