| 688383 | 2008-07-14 04:56:00 | I'm not going to bother quoting you Veale. There's a difference between a career criminal and someone who got put away for doing something wrong when they were stuck in a spot. You have no clue about why this guy went away, I knew him for years, and he's always been calm and gentle and respectful. He's hard-working, and he regrets with every fiber of his being what he did. But he doesn't make excuses for it. Criminals don't really exist in the way that you seem to think they did. It's like you've hung on to some childhood idea of goodies and baddies. Sure, some people are really good, and some people are really bad, but it's not black and white, and frankly if you think it is then you're an idiot. Graham Burton deserves a bullet, but the vast, vast majority don't. Lots of good people have done bad things, and most of the time a judge will see that and react accordingly. But sometimes they won't. I have friends who have almost gone to prison, but the judges leniency has made them turn their life around. One of these people has turned his life around so much that he won't even play pirated games. Absolutely everything is legit. Does he deserve a bullet under your regime? |

If my father's just been killed then all I'd want is him back. There's absolutely nothing they could do to the crim that would equal his crime. Including killing him. That's why rehab is important, you can't kill them, lifetime imprisonment is too expensive, and you can't use them as slaves. You turn someone back into a productive citizen, someone who can pay taxes, discriminate against maori's/asians/muslims, vote national, and whinge about how easy crims have it. As for the cards, it's just the prisoners having some fun at the Prison Administrations expense. Process has to be followed, and so we all just have to put up with it. If they started throwing out the complaints it would be easy for a legitimate complaint to be overlooked. And anything could happen then. |

There have been vast number of programmes running for years, with millions of dollars of taxpayer's funding poured into them. How effective have they been? What techniques do you have to turn criminals into contributing members of society? |

That's what the complaint section is there for, it's abuse is just an annoying side effect. Anyway, large numbers of them may not act humanely, but what distinguishes us from them is that we do. And if we stop that, then how are we any different? |

And if we stop that, then how are we any different? The distinguishing factor between us and them is that "we" haven't broken the law of the land so many times and with such effort that "we" have been punished. I can see no common ground with people so concerned with how the prisoners are looked after. That aside, There is next to no chance of getting killed in prison, And that little form complaint form wouldn't save em if that's what was on the cards. |

There's absolutely nothing they could do to the crim that would equal his crime. Including killing him. But nothing would satisfy you more than see the murderer cringe and scream in pain before he dies. I'm not saying we execute every single prisoners in the system, but certainly execute the most callous ones, eg, Navtej's killers, Joanne's killers, that Polynesian dude who killed somebody he doesn't know out of the blue, that moron who killed that elderly woman......the list goes on. KILL them all. On top of execution, take away all those TVs and comfy beds. Give them radios that will only tune to good channels, not those rubbish channels that air rubbish gangsta hip-hop. For food - don't give them anything that they can savour in their mouths. Just something that can go down the throat and keep them sufficiently full. Give them a basketball court, and nothing else. Medical care? Give them the general GP stuff....anything that requires too much money....let them die. Thousands of deserving civilians die each year because they couldn't afford the treatment. As Veale says.....the audacity for ****ers these days..... |

| 688391 | 2008-07-14 07:24:00 | Maybe if some of the people in prison here were shipped off to someplace like the Bangkwang - Bangkok Hilton (news.bbc.co.uk) in Thailand they may think twice - one hell of a place from what I have seen on TV and read about. Read that page - they take no sh1t. |

You must be absolutely nuts. There's no excuse for committing crimes and being a criminal and harming society. |
