687456 2008-07-11 00:45:00 I am amused by the negitive personal comments directed at me......

the phone was $699, thats less than a N95
the plan is $80 a month, thats not too bad for 120 minutes and 600 txt.

do you know anyone who smokes two packs a week?
the iphone costs less than that haibit.......

if you don't like the phone then dont buy it, just don't make it personal.

do we go around and make personal comments about vista users??

If you had an existing plan, you could have connected it to that, and not contracted yourself to them for 24 months. It appears vodafone staff and management weren't aware of this

Wow, they're really notching up the bad PR milestones on this one.

We were told by the third party mobile provider we've been talking too that it is NOT available to see to corporate clients - consumer only. How whacked is that?

687459 2008-07-11 01:21:00 some of us havent even seen vista so let alone think its good . . . . . :p

Anyway back to iphone . . . . . . . . . . .
I think it comes down to personal choice, or possibly if you have a wee bit of money . . . . :p good luck with your new phone,

i have no interest in getting one myself, apart from the fact i cant afford one, im not really interested in these new gadgets . ill stick with my samsung as it does all i need .

but would like to hear if you think it was worth the effort and money to get one down the track a bit .
from a non bias, non fanatic would be good .

have fun with your phone .

687460 2008-07-11 01:56:00 Do you know if yours is locked to the vodafone network? Supposedly they are locked, even though the commerce commission has warned them about their plans for locking their phones. robbyp (2751)

That sounds very strange. Eitehr they have been given incorrect information, or they are intentially trying to get as many people signed up to those special ipone high rate plans as they can. Once you ae signed up, you can't easily get out of the contract, even if you have been provided with incorrect information. I would probably recommend getting any information they give you in writing.

The rep from the company we were talking too was pretty pissed off about it, apparently . He wanted to sell it to his corp/biz clients, and VF wouldn't let him .

Judging by that thread in Geekzone, there doe seem to be some confusion within VF about what they are doing with the iPhone .

687463 2008-07-11 02:11:00 So why have you not been bitching about the $40 a month plan you get currently? Surely you could get a better mobile plan in Australia for that price?

I probably could.... if I actually lived there. My plan doesn't include surfing the web on a 3G network though. ;)

687464 2008-07-11 02:14:00 That is the most ridicules thing I have read today.

Still, It is early so I expect some more pearlers.

Why is that ridiculous? iTunes has web radio and most radio stations streamcast over the web, and with our "great value" Vodafone plans, internet radio on the iPhone is perfectly feasable.....well in every other country except NZ. :D

Some choice words from Mark Webster at the NZ Herald

To start things off, the very first worldwide sales of the new iPhone in New Zealand should have been a triumphant event, but the wind taken was out of its sales a bit by Vodafone NZ's controversial iPhone pricing plans, considering they're painfully expensive compared to virtually everywhere else in the world.

According to a Vodafone spokesperson this morning, 200 people entered the store at a minute past 12 to get the cachet of being the first in the world to get iPhones. Woopee.

I heard this at a pretty lame 'press conference' Vodafone put on at 9am on Friday. This consisted of a tent with a few tethered iPhones for the fondling and some stock Apple brochures. No announcements, nothin'. I also heard a Vodafone spokesperson say "all the action is in the Vodafone stores". Right. This does not make a press conference. Not at all. Click the link if you want to join this 'action'.

687465 2008-07-11 02:35:00 Because its a piss poor substitue for a built in FM radio.

And tbh I would have probaly grabbed one if it hada built in FM radio and could do pxt. After all, its cheap enough, My contract fee at the moment is near $200 a month.
