Until then though I couldn't agree with you less. Even if I tried. That's crazy. I really hope you don't have children if you don't mind some kiddifliddler babysitting them. |

Both conditions are largely biological in origin, and there is evidence of this. It is well known that there is no treatment for psychopaths (although some do mellow with age). Treatment for paedophiles also seems to be pretty unreliable, with many examples of failure, and I certainly wouldn't want to see any released back into society ever. Drug and fraud offenders, especially first and second offenders, along with some other first or second offenders for low level violence may be amenable to rehabilitation, and certainly for these offenders good drug and alcohol treatment programmes are a worthwhile investment Regards Peter |

| 688376 | 2008-07-14 04:05:00 | When they've raped your sister/mother/wife/friend, killed your father/brother/son for a few hundred dollars and some alcohol, then when they're caught they'll spend around 10+ years in jail, where they are given free food and medical care, entertainment, all for free. And they cost taxpayers over $30000 per year. Why give them a chance? Frankly, I don't give a **** whether they can be rehabilitated or not. They do malicious crimes, they should have a bullet in their heads. No questions asked. What if they can be rehabilitated you say? Not worth it. Not only they do much more than extreme emotional damage on victims, they also suck far too much money from taxpayers. They're just not economically sustainable, even if they can be rehabilitated. They've done so much damage to us, why some people think they have the right to be given a second or third chance at our expense is beyond me. Seriously, why do we have to give them such generous chances? They didn't give victims a chance. Just look at that Navtej guy. Too bad the ****ers who killed him will live in a 2-star hotel for free. |

I know what they were in prison for, and I know their children. I trust them, because I can see that they have changed. It was over 20 years ago that they were in prison, but nonetheless they were in. You can't generalise about people, lots of scum have been in prison, and lots haven't. In the same way a fair amount of good people have passed through prison. Life isn't simple enough to be able to say that good people stay outside and bad people go inside. Except maybe in your head it is that simple. And you've missed out on making some really good friends just because of your predjudices. |

It may be expensive, but it's not a holiday camp. |

You take their word that they were in prison "20 years ago" and you "know" what they went away for. Let me guess, some excuse about a troubled childhood and they had to steal, rob or beat someone to a pulp (or watever) to get by, blah blah blah blah blah....... A word of advice, criminals are lying, bullsh*tting scum. The basis of their criminal behaviour is that they are inherently bad. The only good that could exist in these people is a good bullet. You guys make it sound like they're going to sit on beaches in Fiji or something. Jail is a dangerous, boring, and unpleasant place. It may be expensive, but it's not a holiday camp. Those of us who have never had the pleasure of seeing the inside of a prison would beg to differ. May not be a holiday in Fiji but it far exceeds anything that they deserve. |

Anyone with a freakin TV and a newspaper knows full well that NZ prisoners get good food, good beds, LCD TV's, game consoles, bbq's etc etc etc etc ( i could go on and on). As previously stated, prisons are meant to be for punishment. Meaning, you should get a place to sleep, basic food to keep you alive and suffering and maybe some exercise for good behaviour. No more. |
