687626 2008-07-20 00:55:00 So I buy a MAC and my Bro buys a PC they run fine for 2 years then both die within a similar time frame out of warranty. Bro asks his mate down the pub Mad Pete to have a look at it. By the weekend Pete has fixed Bro's PC. I meanwhile have to try and find an Apple repairer who quotes me extortionate prices on materials only he/she can get and I have to send it away for 2 weeks if I want it fixed. Morale I have a nice shiny white elephant and have to buy another desktop machine..

Luckily none of this is true well actually some of it is but I wouldn't buy a MAC or any Apple product for the reasons I gave.

687627 2008-07-20 01:43:00 And here we are, back at Mac vs PCs again. I mean, all this is sooo novel, we haven't never heard these arguments before.

No one ever wins, each to their own. If your OS does want you want, that is all that is required; no one has to change. You don't need to argue/post links to *news* articles/sale figures/quotes etc in the hope you will win the OS war. It ain't going to work.

Vitalstatistix I am almost convinced you actually support Microsoft Windows as the *PR* job you are doing on Apples/Macs actually puts people off them. Seriously. If a sales reps gets too aggressive, then you walk away and they lose that sale. Same thing you are doing. However, this is something that you will never understand despite having it spelt out to you many, many times. Bit sad actually. I am sure some people wouldn't have acquired such a negative image of Macs/Apples if it weren't for your effects here.

Metla, you are lucky you do have the choice of avoiding certain threads or posters - I don't.

687631 2008-07-20 02:18:00 I used a MAC at massey uni but I found it extremely frustrating to use.

Mac reminded me of windows 3.1 .

687632 2008-07-20 02:59:00 Good idea plod. I am sure it would be easily repairable.

Yes Apple do have their share of hardware problems - they make electonic gadgets after all.

Which Mac OS was that Ninjabear? The reason you found it frustrating to use - like a lot of PC users - is because you were expecting it to be like a PC...
where is the START button,
Where is C/Drive?
Where is My Documents? - am I close?

Explained here

Menu Bars: In Windows, each program typically has its own menu bar. On the Mac, there’s a single menu bar at the top of the screen that changes, depending on which program you are actively using.

Task Bar: The equivalent of the Windows XP Task Bar on the Mac is the Dock. Unlike the Task Bar, which primarily holds icons representing open windows, the Mac Dock primarily holds icons of programs you use most often. To place a program onto the Dock, you just drag its icon there. To remove it, you just drag its icon off the Dock and it disappears in a puff of animated smoke.

Start Menu: There is no Start Menu on a Mac. Its functions are divided between the Dock and the Apple menu at the upper left of the Mac screen.

Control Panel: The Mac equivalent of the Windows Control Panel is called System Preferences, and it can be launched from either the Dock or the Apple menu.
