| 687606 | 2008-07-19 10:27:00 | So true Wainuitech. The first basic rule in selling... Never, ever, rubbish the competition!! You say something like... "theirs is an excellent product, but can you look at this function that our product has..." or suchlike, along those lines. Ken PS Have been selling things for many years, successfully!! I feel this thread will go on forever, as winmacstatguy has never listened to intelligent debate yet. Don't think he will ever do that. I had a query on cd encoding the other day as I was about to purchase a new player, but didn't put a thread up as I knew he would hijack it. Figured it out for myself! And got it wrong! |

| 687608 | 2008-07-19 17:01:00 | Have you looked at most of the apple advertising on TV- mostly it rubbishes Microsoft, its main competition - and that's exactly how a lot of the posts are written, and to be honest I have never seen MS do the opposite . You don't see car or any other product manufactures advertising rubbishing the opposition, they advertise their own brands . Is rubbishing MS the best Apple can do ? According to Apple they are just poking fun at MS - but make up your own oppinion about that :p MS is actually in the process of putting together a multy hundred million dollar campaign to "promote" the features of Vista and rubbish Apple  Goodluck with that . |

Sure have, ask and yee shall recieve Microsoft Admits Windows Vista Mistakes, Criticizes Apple Ads The company will work to reverse the widely held belief, informed by early troubles upon the operating system's launch, that Vista isn't compatible with many applications and devices. In the coming weeks and months, Microsoft will launch a huge advertising campaign that's been reported to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Microsoft advertised Vista to small businesses in The Wall Street Journal and USA Today the last two weeks, and plans a much larger wave of ads under the tagline "Free the People." Brooks gave a taste of what's coming with a few swipes at Apple and some selected highlights of Windows Vista's features. www.informationweek.com Note that I have edited the article for PF1 viewers but you can go to the link to read it in full. |

Well I have taken the time to read the full article from the link you posted. Just because it is black and white it must be true maybe. Now what about a link to, "According to Apple they are just poking fun at MS." |

Now what about a link to, "According to Apple they are just poking fun at MS." Apple have readily admitted that both by their adverts and (if you are wanting to watch them) several of their MacWorld banners and keynotes prior to the release of OS X 10.4 Links can be posted if requested. Apple used the phrase "Redmond start your photocopiers" on its MacWorld banners. Bertrand Serlet, VP of Platforms at Apple, then proceeded to show the copied similarities between a number of features in Tiger and Vista - Tiger of course was out first. Bertrand has a quirky sense of humor ;) |

| 687613 | 2008-07-19 22:41:00 | It's just that quirky sense of humours tend to get people in trouble eventually. I would find it humerous if Microsoft started showing ads about Apples (the fruit) being thrown out because they all had worms in them, but I doubt everyone would. |

That "simple" concept would be out of character for MS - they prefer the morecomplexlongwindedallatonceroute that completely blows right past the customer. |

| 687615 | 2008-07-19 23:02:00 | According to Apple they are just poking fun at MS - but make up your own oppinion about that :p Be that as It may - but its still advertising. I think I have seen only 1 advertisement for apple products on TV that didn't have a go at MS. There may be more - I just haven't seen them. the_bogan's comment stands true - "It's just that quirky sense of humours tend to get people in trouble eventually" As for MS doing the reverse and doing ads to rubbish Apple - only time will tell, just because some one wrote an article doesn't mean its going to happen. What would be interesting is if it did happen, and the possible $$$$$$$$$ slander/law suits that some of these huge companies tend to get involved in. |
