689904 2008-07-17 22:41:00 Hi guys.

Just wondering how you look for work? Online only?

What are some issues you have had with looking for work especially online?

We are trying to improve on what is out there and would love to hear your opinion.

There's no point in looking for any jobs online

689907 2008-07-17 23:42:00 The 2 out of 3 current jobs I have I got when there was an ad on our degree-wide email system. beeswax34 (63)
689908 2008-07-17 23:45:00 Every job I've ever had was more who I knew than what I know.

It's done me fairly well so far.

Speedy, all (online) job agencies want is a pool of people for potential customers (employers). They don't care about individual people looking for work. All you are is a CV.

Why give you the option to upload one then

Theyre pretty much hopeless

Doesnt worry me now anyway, I wont be looking for anything for the next 5-10 yrs +

I was just thinking the same thing.

It seriously can't be coincidence.

689913 2008-07-18 00:45:00 Recruiters are nothing more than Used Car Salesmen (but generally with fewer ethics). They just want to have names to put in front of a client so they can justify their (usually outrageous) fee.

The key thing to remember when dealing with a recruiter is: THEY ARE NOT WORKING FOR YOU. If you keep that in mind, your expectations will not be overly high, so you won't be disappointed.

That said, there are a few good ones out there. And it helps if you have skills that they need. I'm 'lucky' enough to get several calls a month from various recruiters asking when I'm next going to be available. However, I haven't been placed in a contract by one for 4 years - most of my contracts are now via word-of-mouth - the absolute best way of getting work (enables the rate to be pushed to the limit if you're dealing direct with the client!! :D ).
