689382 2008-07-16 03:49:00 Well according to DreamWorks animation it would have to be Intel...

DreamWorks Animation SKG is pushing AMD aside to team up with chipmaker rival Intel to make the big transition to 3-D animated films next year. www.computerworld.com.au

That would have to be a slap in the face for AMD if ever there was one  :p

689383 2008-07-16 04:37:00 From what I have read in various places AMD has been struggling for a while now to keep up with Intel, how much truth is in those reports I don't know but if its true, another " Nail in the coffin" so to speak would not be to welcomed by AMD. wainuitech (129)
689384 2008-07-16 04:54:00 I wonder what Dreamworks Computers are like? I would assume LOTS of Memory and maybe lots Xeon or better, is anything faster or better, I assume there is. Xeons and Pentiums for the peasants and joe blogg public maybe Bantu (52)
689385 2008-07-16 05:16:00 Yeah AMD have had a shocker recently aye - their new chips had a major bug, and their buy-out of ATI was kinda pointless because the NVidia still has a big edge in the GPU market. I'm sure they'll be around a while longer yet tho. nofam (9009)
689386 2008-07-16 05:23:00 I'm still waiting to upgrade my trusty 7600gt...

Right now is probably a very bad time to do that. :D

689387 2008-07-16 05:42:00 Slightly OT, but how much longer are discrete GPU's going to be able to be stored inside a case? SLI etc is col, but why not just go with something like this? (www.nvidia.com)

It's probably hellishly expensive, but it would mean less heat in a case, a smaller power supply etc? And money never seems to be an object for hard-core gamers!!

689388 2008-07-16 05:43:00 Yeah you do wonder why they bother, portability isn't an issue, it's a desktop PC.

It can't be that hard to design an uber-fast interface that fits into one (or two) PCI slots, and connect it up via a nice easy cable.

689389 2008-07-16 06:00:00 Between AMD and Intel I would say whatever suits you and your budget!!! Sweep (90)
689390 2008-07-16 06:00:00 Yeah AMD have had a shocker recently aye - their new chips had a major bug, and their buy-out of ATI was kinda pointless because the NVidia still has a big edge in the GPU market. I'm sure they'll be around a while longer yet tho.

Not anymore they don't.

Have you had a look at the latest releases? The GTX 2xx series looks to be owned by the price/power of the 4xxx series.

If you have money to burn then I guess 3x GTX280 is where it's at, but until then they're beaten at every turn.
