689289 2008-07-16 00:24:00 Our Uniden cordless has finally passed over, and I need a new phone. Is Uniden still ok for the cheap-but-pretty-good end of the market?

And where in Wellington would have a good selection (prefer not DSE, I've had trouble returning faulty stuff to them in the past, and I'm not in the mood for my old-lady-chews-out-manager act today.)

Thanks -

689290 2008-07-16 00:53:00 Yep Uniden still good - or Panasonic. Steer clear of the cheap Warehouse-brand phones (not sure whether they do a cordless anyway...) johcar (6283)
689291 2008-07-16 00:56:00 Thanks for that - I'd forgotten panasonic did phones. annie (6010)
689292 2008-07-16 11:59:00 Uniden is still good. We have 2 handsets and they do the job really well. beeswax34 (63)
689293 2008-07-16 21:00:00 If you have a wireless network, or may get one in the future, make sure you get one that is NOT 2.4GHz.
Get 1.8 or 5.8GHz.

689294 2008-07-16 22:01:00 Yep, I had wifi and a couple of 2.4 ghz phones.

Dumped the phones and got 5.8ghz ones, vast improvement.

689295 2008-07-16 23:19:00 Thanks for all that, it's good info. I ended up getting a Panasonic 1.8 GHz phone yesterday after asking about DECT/1.8 2.4 etc GHz in this thread (forums.pcworld.co.nz) and realising that 2.4 could get interference.

Unfortunately a new phone didn't fix my problems with TelstraClear cable - no phone reception, pausing internet reception. My problems now relate squarely to TelstrClear and their service inadequacies. Last time this happened we were without a phone for 6 days. Help desk takes ages, appointments not kept (meant to come today, now tomorrow, and of course I am meant to have heard it all wrong), and I know they're going to need a cable repairman, which will be next week, after a couple of noshows..... And the guy on the helpdesk somehow couldn't get the idea that both phone and internet are affected, therefore it's their cable not my phones causing the problem....dear god NOT AGAIN!!!

This time I'm keeping notes, and intend to make the mother and father of all fusses, including to the Telecommunications Commissioner. That'll learn them.
