817260 2009-10-06 02:14:00 I have a friend who is having problems with some of the USB ports on her Win XP SP3 machine. They have either stopped working or give errors. How can the drivers for them be updated for free?
Most programs give a free scan but then you have to pay to get the drivers.

Cheers LL :(

817261 2009-10-06 02:28:00 You dont have to update them. Try deleting all of the entries under the USB controllers entry in device manager. Then reboot. What do the errors say? Speedy Gonzales (78)

817263 2009-10-06 02:42:00 There probably wont be an updated USB drivers. And if you do manage to find any, they'll probably be the same as what you've got. I wouldnt scan with any programs , some can be dodgy, and may install drivers that'll make it worse. If deleting the entries then rebooting doesnt fix things, it could be a hardware prob Speedy Gonzales (78)
817264 2009-10-06 02:53:00 There is no delete option on right click, do you mean uninstall or disable.

817266 2009-10-06 03:53:00 Ok, problem solved, many thanks Speedy. Turned out to be faulty USB extension attached to the printer. Found it by eliminating USBs one by one.

Friend is now happy.
