2009-10-04 08:22:00 | Hi all, Went to have quick game of COD4 online and all the overseas servers are getting high pings. The servers I usually play on I get around 100ms but tonight no matter what I do I am getting 300-400ms. Telecom tell me they are having no problems. Is anyone else having these problems with xtra? Cheers

2009-10-04 09:55:00 | I've noticed this for over a week now, and even late at night at like 1am. :angry | XypherNZ (15293) | |
2009-10-04 11:14:00 | I have this problem also! I am on telecom and I am getting 400+ ping to Australia it should be less than 100 (about 60-90). This also means I get about 500 ping to USA. There must be a problem between Telecom NZ and The Global Exchange. I did a trace route and it comes back all good except the hop between Telecom and The 1st Gloabl Exchange, all the other 17 hops to blizzard.com are fine. Jump into command prompt and type tracert blizzard.com Normally it should take about 150-250 milliseconds instead it takes 500-600 I get a timeout on hop 3 (this delays me by 300+ milliseconds) before it attempts the next hop The 1st hop is my router The 2nd hop is in Auckland, ISP Telecom. The 3rd hop is unresponsive What the hell is going on? And I pay for this internet, what a crock? I have the internet for 2 thing Games and more Games and this is pathetic!!!!! Whats going on Telecom/Xtra?!?!?!

2009-10-04 18:12:00 | You'll be on an ADSL1 plan, yes? ping news.com.au and what do you get? ping trademe.co.nz and what do you get? Download WinMTR from winmtr.sf.net and run that for 50 rounds on both.

2009-10-05 10:24:00 | ping trademe.co.nz = 59ms thats respectable but still not awesome it should be 1/2 that at 59ms i can quite happily play a FPS game and chat on Skype in NZ ping news.com.au = 396ms - thats PATHETIC!!!! At 400ms I cant play FPS games and i get lag spikes when i play RTS games that make me drop some times As far as Skype goes it is awful because there is a ½ second delay on all speech I am on Xtra for internet and i have an ADSL2 N Modem Router www.speedtest.net Christchurch server (Local) 69ms 13.90Mbps Down 0.79Mbps Up Sydney server------------337ms 0.36Mbps Down - 0.60Mbps Up It is strange that the upload is ok but the download is bad What the hell is going on? Is Telecom overloaded? Does Telecom not have any QOS? Once again this is PATHETIC even for NZ Broadband!!!!

2009-10-05 12:54:00 | Does Telecom not have any QOS? I think you may find its the QOS thats causing the Ping issue, as I think reading on forum like Geekzone (www.geekzone.co.nz) & GPforums (www.gpforums.co.nz) that Telecom might be doing some sort of Traffic Management or something like that on the international links. I think you may find that by next week things will get back to normal as schools go back. Also keep in mind with Go Large closuring down at the end of the months, a lot of the heavy downloaders / leechers will be moving plans / ISPs, so that will upset the network for a little while. By the way you did not say what plan youre on? Big Time? Adventure?
