816656 2009-10-03 23:52:00 On one of my computers the 5 year old C: keeps corrupting so I went out and brought a brand new hard drive to replace it with.

I couldn't even boot into the old drive so I just installed Win XP on the new drive, plugged the old drive which still works in as a slave in an attempt to grab all the useful files off it.

Is there an automated program I can use which is smart/configurable enough to grab all my settings, favourites, programs etc, and ignore common OS files that don't need to be copied over?

If the old drive can still do it, you could image it with a program such as DriveImageXML, Macrium Reflect or Acronis and then load the image onto your new drive.
