688826 2008-07-15 09:01:00 Thanks Wainui we are considering and just wanted to see if the vents are unobtrusive or not, looks good They are smaller than the DVS vents. wainuitech (129)
688827 2008-07-15 09:07:00 Talking about those other things..can some one explain what the difference is between DVS and HRV is?

beetle:stare: Basically they work the same, The DVS have bigger vents than HRV.

We were tossing up between DVS and HRV, in the end We went with HRV because every one I spoke to (and I see lots of peoples homes) every one who had a DVS said you needed to have the heating adapter, with the HRV, no one had the adaptor, and every one said it was fine.

One person I talked to said they had a DVS and they changed to HRV and it was better.

688828 2008-07-17 06:07:00 Ok going to clarify this, you measure the length and width of house . . . . . . .

so if the floor plan of the house was say 100msq, and i wanted to use, 3 . 2 pinks which has 8 . 4 meters in it, id need 11 bales? at $99 each . . . . . $1089?

oh my goodness . . . . . . . . .

or did i do something wrong?

688829 2008-07-17 06:19:00 One thing re ventilation systems - they should ideally get fresh air from outside the house (in which case you do need a countercurrent heat exchange thingy if you want to retain heat).

Ceiling space air isn't the stuff you want to be breathing all the time - dust, fibreglass fragments, all that crap - could cause god knows what horrors that will only become evident in another 20 years. I've seen several people w breathing problems exacerbated after ceiling-space-intake systems have gone in.

Try the local demolition yard, I hear they just stashed away an entire truckload of batts in pristine condition.

I also hear the yardman rolls over easily when you haggle, Be cheeky, offer $100.....

I've seen several people w breathing problems exacerbated after ceiling-space-intake systems have gone in . They do have filters on them for that exact reason - collecting of dust etc . HRV have a finner filter than the DVS . The older models were crap compared to the modern ones .

Ever since our one went in it is obvious that the air is fresher in the house than before, and its warmer . The filter filters it down to 0 . 4 of a micron - now thats small, and the way the guys showed us, its actually filtered twice before being pumped out to the house, thats cleaner than the air outside .

My wife gets Asthma sometimes - and even she commented a few days ago that she feels a lot better since we had the HRV installed, before it was installed the other week, she was having trouble breathing over the last few months, having to have her inhaler at least once a night - since the install - Nothing .

688835 2008-07-17 12:52:00 I agree with annie 100%

Unless those filters are frequently cleaned they get stuffed and more and more stuff gets through.
Taking filthy air from the roofspace is not the way to go. Also the heat is not there when you really need it(cold foggy and rainy days, cold mornings)
Insulation, double glazing and a ventilation system that draws the air from outside with an intregrated heat exchanger is the way to go rather than this
stone age low tech stuff from DVS, HRV or whatever they call it.......
