816632 2009-10-04 07:38:00 Can I RMA it even when it passed all the tests? bk T (215)
816633 2009-10-04 08:04:00 So the hard drive was brand new when you got it 9 months ago or did you get it from TradeMe or wherever?

Remove the hard drive and record the serial number.

Then go to the Seagate site and see if that drive is still covered by warranty. The Make, Model and serial will be asked for.

Still under warranty then take it back to where you got it maybe.

816634 2009-10-04 08:10:00 I bought this HDD from PB and it's only about 8 months old. Maybe I should ring up PB tomorrow and see what they have to say. Sending it back to Singapore takes a long time. bk T (215)

By PB I think you mean this company.

If so you should not have a problem. I use the Hamilton Branch but I also went to Penrose when I was in Auckland some time back to help a friend.

Bear in mind here that based on the posts earlier in this thread I personally can't diagnose the problem from my place right now but in any event I would get all important data off the drive right now like to other storage media in any event.

PBtech may replace the drive if faulty but then they normally have a disclaimer where they won't rescue data as I would not either.

In my opinion it is over to the user to make copies or backups before the drive dies rather than trying to do it later.

It's PB Tech, Penrose branch.

Have backup all important data- no worries about that.

Will PB just replace it or they have to perform tests before replacing it?

What other tests other than SeaTools from Seagate? If SeaTools is to be used by PB, this HDD passed all the tests. It's a tricky situation.

816637 2009-10-04 09:36:00 When my hdd died (I couldnt use anything to test it with tho) since it was dead. Windows wouldnt even boot (it wouldnt go past the post screen).

It went back to where I brought it, it was connected to one of their pc's, and confirmed it was dead (it wouldnt boot either). They sent it to Albany (why I have no idea). Some place up there deals with seagates. It took a week before anything happened. I had to use my spare PC in the meantime

As I have no idea as to whether the hard drive is faulty or not and causing the problem(s) you have and I can't diagnose it from my place I would suggest you take it back to PB in Penrose.

I took a Motherboard back to PB in Hamilton and they checked it out while I went a had a cup of coffee. It was replaced without question but not with the same model which made me reinstall Windows on the hard drive with a different chipset.
