| 691207 | 2008-07-22 21:58:00 | About a month ago someone asked about verifying windows xp over the internet and most people said you have to put in all these numbers to do it, well what alot of rubbish. I have just installed Windows XP Home SP3 OEM on a new computer. I verified it over the internet and all I had to do was click on a couple of buttons and it was done, no entering any numbers or anything. :) |

Online is easy, however sometimes it decides this COA has been used before and insists you do the phone method. This asks you to enter a long series of numbers and then the automated phone system reads you another long set back which you need to enter. |

I have also changed hardware and had to verify windows again but didn't have to enter any numbers, just clicked on a couple of buttons. :) |

If it works over the net, well and good. Most of the time it does. Sometimes you need to call MS. Then you need to enter all the numbers with your phone, which isn't a big deal, and then type in the 'confirmation ID' MS will give you. |

I had to talk to an MSer one time to do this, and they must have been in an Indian call centre. We had great fun reading back numbers to each other and trying to understand each others accent. |

| 691214 | 2008-07-23 01:13:00 | You know I've had a lot of these lately. Yesterday I re-installed the original OEM XP on my Fathers PC, the one I built him 6 years ago. Nothings changed, and I had to ring MS and go through the read numbers with the Indian guy. I asked him why when nothings changed and he couldn't tell me. |

Same, it seems to have been since XP was discontinued, although why the activation would be changed is beyond me. |

| 691216 | 2008-07-23 06:53:00 | It is harder to activate Windows online when you don't have a functioning internet access at that stage. I repaired the OS on one XP machine and it wouldn't let me complete the installation step until it had been reactivated. My only choice was to phone them up. Unfortunately I had a sore throat and had 100% loss of voice, so couldn't use a phone! Lucky for me a friend was online in MSN at the time and I sent him the code details and he phoned them up and then sent me back the new code to use. |
