691275 2008-07-22 21:07:00 Hi all, one of the directors is looking at getting a tablet pc. I have never used one and was hoping someone here may have some experience with one.

Can anyone tell me how good the drawing feature and conversion to text is?.

Is there anything to watch out for with the tablet pc over say a normal laptop?...

691276 2008-07-22 21:57:00 Laptop Tablets? What do they cure?

A good anti-virus program is a more practical alternative. ;)

691277 2008-07-22 22:06:00 LOL...very good.....can you believe, there is a site called.....tabletpcreview.com...... SolMiester (139)
691278 2008-07-22 22:11:00 The handwriting recognition in Vista is excellent, accurate, and fast.

While I have only used a tablet for a short period of time, I found that it really isn't that useful unless you need to be standing up, walking around, and using your laptop at the same time.

691279 2008-07-23 02:07:00 Sol, pardon me for asking an obvious question but what tasks or applications does the Director use most during his/her working day?

Also what is the nature of their work?

691280 2008-07-23 05:38:00 The director is the managing director of a local\national group of accountancy firm. He is also very involved with EIT up here being on the board of directors, and also Sports HB, as well as having a hand in his wife's business which has 4 shops.....he certainly is a busy boy..anyway, we have several sql databases, but mainly he will use for office apps.
I think he wants to be able to scribble his meeting notes using the tablet, so he can easily refer back etc.....he does like his toys, problem is he hardly uses them, then forgets how they work...LOL.

He currently has a dual core lappy, complete with docking stand, wireless keyboard\mouse etc, T3G cards for remote access, but hardly uses them....

Dare I ask would an iPhone with Voice recording be an option - even if you don't use it for 2 weeks after you first get it you won't forget how to use it? Voice recording would be easier than trying to scribble notes down.

Otherwise if that idea sucks then go for a PC tablet with hand writting recognition. I assume he can write fairly quickly?

691282 2008-07-23 06:16:00 Of course, a "proper" voice recorder which only has 3 separate record, play, and stop buttons will be a) easier to learn, and b) more difficult to forget. It's also $900 cheaper! somebody (208)
691283 2008-07-23 08:56:00 It is entirely possible that the Director could be so lacking in gullibility that a posers pocket phone seems an iDiotic choice. R2x1 (4628)
691284 2008-07-23 09:33:00 Ah, tablet PC's are great to use. My professors at uni use them a lot and seem to find them very easy to use and quite handy. beeswax34 (63)
