817858 2009-10-07 20:41:00 I have a linksys WAG160N at home, and use Vista Business on my laptop with a integrated Intel Link WIFI 5100 AGN adapter. I used the WIFI protected setup on the modem and put the PIN into my laptop to access the wireless. It works but everyday, or every few days it fails to find the network, saying something about validating. and i actually have to go and reset the router. would there be a particular reason for this? If i set the wireless network up manually i still get the same result. aidanmaz (7180)
817859 2009-10-07 21:05:00 Yup, basically it's the router - Ring Linksys to RMA it, they've had a lot of that lately and are semi-understanding that basically the WAG160N's are crap ... ;) Chilling_Silence (9)

The only issue i have with ringing linksys, is that im not the original owner, the company i work for has had it before i arrived 6 months ago, and havent got records to show it. Would i still be able to get a RMA (whatever that is) from linksys?

NB: A tech once told me that linksys is basically anything Cisco considers to be crap.

I disagree with that. Most linksys products are very high quality and none have ever failed me so far.

The WAG160N was just a "mistake"...

817862 2009-10-07 23:50:00 Yeah the WAG160N was just one of those failures every company has.. Everything else of theirs I hold in quite high regard :)

No idea about the RMA, it's worth a try, otherwise you might want to look in to this:

No, Linksys is anything Cisco considers to be designed for home and small business use. It is still, for the most part, very high quality - though like all companies, occaisonally a faulty product is launched - while being far more cost effective for its intended market than would be simply relabelling some of their higher-end Cisco products.

Linksys support is usually very good, give them a try, it may not matter that you don't have proof of purchase.

817864 2009-10-08 01:15:00 How did the wag160n get this horrible reputation? I know linksys will be releasing the wag320n soon, basically the same but with gigabit ports and dualband wireless N

edit: i meant is the wag160n widely regarded as a mistake and well publicised? I was planning on getting one till I heard about the wag320n

817865 2009-10-08 01:18:00 I've got the WAG160N and it gets raped, DSL data throughput of >80GB a month and up to 5 wireless and 4 wired clients gaming/youtube/skyping at any one time. Hasn't missed a best yet, although I'm slightly worried about it now... :p wratterus (105)
817866 2009-10-08 08:08:00 Same here. Mine's going strong too. Good range, good speeds, never drops out. The only issues I've had in which I thought the router was at fault, turned out to be windows. Repair winsock, set up all the ip addresses etc manually & that's it. I've go 2 W7 comps, a ps3 & my iphone using it now. It never fails.

Go to the linksys (www.linksysbycisco.com) site & have a live chat with a tech. I did that when I first got it. I didn't have a clue how to set up wireless securely (my 1st wireless router) & with their help it was easy
