817577 2009-10-06 20:54:00 Hello,
I required a simple solution, but google giving me way more then I ask for, so confuse. Need your help.

I will be switching to ORCON from next week and ultimately Ditching WOOSH ( I am happy as....)
I have preety basic plan (10 gb) which is enough for my family at present. The issue is...

I have 2 laptop ( me and dad).

I would like my dad not to use more than 100 MB a Day .
What should I do ?

I use linksys (WGA200G) wireless modem & ADSL2+ router.
Router does have basic Restriction Setup (see here (www.imagef1.net.nz))
But it does not give the data limit, I can control days, times, websites.
But can not control amount of broadband data use.

817578 2009-10-06 21:43:00 I have problems with daily broadband usage as well. I usually use about 2gb/day since 5 people in the family use the internet.

I don't really have a solution for you but the only solution I know was to switch to a better Internet Service Provider.

I was on Vodafone's 20GB Plan for $100 but just recently switched to Telecom's Big Time Plan for $59.99. Though I don't like Telecom much, their plan at the moment is cheap for me and I get unlimited broadband (Don't have to worry about usage) :)

It also depends what you and your Dad use broadband for. For me, I use internet mainly for University, YouTube and a bit of online gaming.

All I would recommended is to switch ISP. Or increase your broadband usage from 10GB to maybe 20GB.

Another decent ISP I've heard of is Xnet.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Thanks vims,
I do not want more data, 10 gb is enough for me a month . Also i can not afford more to pay at this stage .
My dad mainly watch news videos from all around the world, this take lots of data and nothing left when I go home . It means If I can restrict his IP to use only few MB a day, then It slow down to normal speed rather than Full speed .
I have heard about some Bandwidth Manager, but as I mention Google is giving me things which is of no use (at leaset for me)
I need some one to tell me about some Free tool over internet that I can control Broadband Useage per day, so My data can streatch till end of the month .

817581 2009-10-06 21:56:00 How much are you paying for 10GB of Data? Since your Dad uses it for watching news on the internet mostly, it can take alot of bandwidth.

I'm not too sure if I can help you on a bandwidth manager. You should contact your ISP Provider regarding it. Maybe there could be some error in how much bandwidth is being used.

817582 2009-10-06 22:00:00 Who is paying the bill, you or your dad?? CYaBro (73)
817583 2009-10-06 22:12:00 Who is paying the bill, you or your dad??

Of-course me.
Its not about paying any way, Its about using data in limit, so I do not run out of data at the last few days of the month.
I used to have 5 gb with woosh which was enough because it gives you slow speed and my dad only can view news, not watch videos as frequently.
but since orcon is fast as, videos loads quickly(virtually real time) and data gets chewed too quickly too.

817584 2009-10-06 22:14:00 Xnet have turned to custard in the last 18 months, since releasing their Torrent plan ...

Why not just get yourself a Router running Tomato firmware and block certain types of traffic / domains for his IP?

I am not a Network Pro, how hard will this be ?

Reasonable simple as long as you follow the instructions.

Buy router>flash firmware via ftp(or u/g from dd-wrt using Asus firmware utility) (www.society9.com)>Set it up(we can walk you through the process:)
