817346 2009-10-06 10:29:00 The ability for a user to mark a thread solved, and maybe somehow have a solved threads option in search tp filter out all the dead end threads. admittedly there isnt actually many

and a thanks thing would be excellent

x2 for shorter post time, especially pm's. Why do you need it? If someones sad enough to spam a pm box they should be banned forever

817347 2009-10-06 11:58:00 lots of points can be swapped for geek toys.

Yeah. For "Geek Boys"
If that happens. I'm outta here.
Be a shame(to me) After 10 plus years !! :annoyed:

817348 2009-10-07 01:59:00 I agree re the point system - it's a good idea in theory, but I'm yet to see it implemented well on a forum; we all know who makes the biggest contributions on here, and those people are duly respected. nofam (9009)
817349 2009-10-07 02:42:00 There are only two things I would like improved/changed:

1. The search feature. Like Billy T said, it's really hard to find old posts or threads if you don't know the exact search terms. If you do know them it is a piece of cake but I usually give up if I have to wade through pages and pages of results.

2. I see no reason why the membership list cannot be culled when a member has made no posts or visits to the forum within three months of joining and those who have not signed onto the forum for two years regardless of number of posts. Why keep them?? Is it to make the forum look like it is a busy place?
Culling them would free up account names for other people to use.

817351 2009-10-07 04:01:00 2. Culling them would free up account names for other people to use.I did a big cull several months ago of users with no posts and hadn't logged for 12 months (I think). I did try to leave the accounts that I could recognise as "spares" or "name-bagging" belonging to regular members. I think I got rid of a couple thousand accounts in the end.

You have to be more careful of culling the banned members as you don't want to free up usernames or emails addresses for them to use again.

817352 2009-10-07 04:57:00 Maybe include sub categories - or sub forums. I find in the chat section, for a particular thread, many replies go slightly off topic - over several pages. I mean all good the chats, but perhaps they could be in another relevant section. Many USA PC/Web/Internet Marketing, etc, forums that I contribute all have specific categories/sub categories.

Sub Categories for Press F1 could be Hardware (Then subs like Modem, Graphic cards, etc) Software, Web Design, Anti-Virus, Internet Marketing, Microsoft, etc.

For Chat - "Off Topic" or "Lounge", Introductions (for new members), New Zealand Topics, News Links (Many chats start from links to news items; Then sub categories), Social Media, Money Online, Software Reviews, Blog/Web Platforms, Groups (where members can form own groups to chat etc).

Example at Computer Hope (www.computerhope.com).

817353 2009-10-07 05:05:00 i like the sub catagory idea for PF1 kahawai  GameJunkie (72)
817354 2009-10-07 05:35:00 +1 for sub categories. More specific to relevant topics, makes it easier, more organized and generally more popular when there is more to look at. Chris09 (15218)
817355 2009-10-07 06:08:00 How about adding some sort of symbol for when you have read some threads. convair (13650)
