691914 2008-07-26 04:00:00 Years ago when my 8 brothers and sisters and I were kids living on a farm just out of ChCh, my mother bought a Rikki sewing machine from a guy who owned a small electrical store in the neighbouring township.
About 30yrs later, when living in Hamiton, I bought a knitting machine and the shopowner delivered it to my flat. He asked where I was from, and he told me he remembered selling a sewing machine to this farmer and his wife who had lots of kids in that area. When he said it was a Rikki, I was so stunned - so was he when I told him it was my family he sold the sewing machine to.

On my side of the street where I lived in Hamilton, all of the residents were from Christchurch and had transferred there. Felt right at home.

691917 2008-07-26 04:41:00 When I visited the beerfest in Munich in 1983 (wow, that's a long time ago!) I was standing near the bandstand in the aisle, drinking (a Hofbrauhaus no-no, strictly speaking) and I got a tug on my elbow. Turned around and it was a girl I used to play tennis with 10-12 years earlier (when we were kids). I hadn't seen her since we had last played tennis!!

johcar I was at the '83 beerfest twice so to speak. I was driving tour buses at the time and took two groups there first and second week.

I was also driving shuttle beerfest/thalkirken a few times over that 2 weeks.

Was also at '79, 81 and '82 beerfest.

691918 2008-07-26 04:46:00 While travelling Europe in 1979 I met up with two Aussie blokes, an aussie girl and a kiwi girl travelling in a Red VW (Who BTW were all at '83 Beerfest). When the three Aussies realised I was a Kiwi they said that the Kiwi girl will know me or know someone that knows me.

She was from the North Island and I was from South of Dunedin so I found this hard to believe.

Turned out she used to baby sit regularly for my next door neighbour when she was a student at Otago Uni.

Not how I use my tools, none of them are paying attention to what they are doing, good way to either have an accident or ruin the job.

Now......my belt sander.................

You weren't driving for Golden Lion by any chance??

Did you know "Santa"? Aussie courier, drove for Golden Lion - blonde guy with a big blonde beard (hence the nickname). Ended up taking a group of us to Achenkirch for a couple of weeks skiing in '84....
