691371 2008-07-23 09:06:00 I suppose it must be plural (or zero) if it is "not one" ;)

Evidence is here (pressf1.co.nz).

691374 2008-07-23 16:31:00 The fact that "pages" is a plural, indicates that the correct word is "are" .

Pages is, is not applicable, but pages are works well .

English IS wonderful . . it has rules and that lets one communicate with elegance and elan .

"None" is not a noun, but "pages" is a noun .

"None" is a modifier in the sentence .

The modifier reflects the noun and the verb sets tense .

691375 2008-07-23 19:17:00 No need to get tense about it - it's only grammar. R2x1 (4628)
691376 2008-07-23 21:26:00 . . . and that none of these pages is blank . "

They are asking someone to check that not a single page is blank .

i . e . The number of blank pages is zero . Only if zero is plural would I agree that "are" is correct .
