691134 2008-07-22 08:21:00 I think in the web 2.0 age, online stores work best when they sell music that is attached to a music player or are part of a bricks and mortar set up.

otherwise people can just do exactly as metla has described.

691136 2008-07-22 08:32:00 The asking price reflects the development costs for building this site.

Asking price: $335,000

Either they are incredibly stupid, or are looking for someone who is.

That would hurt

That's why my own business doesn't have a site, to much work to keep it up to date, and keep on top of prices.

I get plenty of work Via word of mouth and normal Yellow pages advertising.

Yes it appears that the site could have been setup as a demo for their Premo store system. Looking at the premo store site, you can get your own online store setup much cheaper, so I don't know why it said that the 300,000k price is based on the development costs, as as itnappears to be a prebuilt cart. I think a lot of the hits would come from the premo store site, as it is the demo site on it.

691139 2008-07-22 09:18:00 If the site is as good as the seller "claims" I would be wanting to have a VERY good look at the books before making any sort of offer since I don't honestly believe that an NZ based PC and component/software selling site has as much potential as the seller claims or that it is worth as much as they are dreaming/asking.

I don't really know what profit it would have to make to justify that sort of asking price. Perhaps $100,000k profit after costs and wages come off it, I am no business expert, but that price does seem well off.

691141 2008-07-22 10:11:00 Putting it on TradeMe for such a high asking price is very likely just another way to increase hits to their site. They probably thought they might appear on the news or at least get linked to heaps through forums etc. and eventually become famous through word of mouth etc...... ? Deathwish (143)

You are probably right, that is how they possibily expect the hits to go up to 1000 a day, which is pretty high. Best not to mention the name or link to it.

They claim the price reflects development costs. But that's not how you price a business. The whole dev costs thing for the website is a smoke screen. You're either selling a business as a going concern or you are not. And the value of that business has nothing to do with how much it cost to build the website.
