| 817622 | 2009-10-07 01:13:00 | Oh side note, heard was better to have 2 hard drives running in raid 0 is it to get better speeds. Any info on this? this is y i have 2 750gs instead of 1x 1500g I have a RAID-0 striped across 4 disks. There is definitely a performance boost, so in my opinion is worth it. I picked up 4 of the cheapest drives I could find (160GB each) and have a RAID-0 striped partition for OS/programs, and RAID-10 for data. I do daily backups of "C:" drive so that if I do lose a disk, I can just replace it and reimage back to where I was. In terms of the whole "lose one disk, lose the lot" argument, I don't see it being a problem. If I had one 500GB drive, and that died, I'd lose all my data. If I had a RAID-0 array of 4x 160GB drives, and one dies, I'd lose all my data. I'd still have to make a warranty claim on one disk, and wait for a replacement before I could get my machine back up. In a practical sense there is no difference - you're no worse off having two drives striped, compared to having one drive on its own. The argument is only valid if you're comparing RAID-0 with RAID 1, 10, 5, or other resilient RAID formats. |

| 817623 | 2009-10-07 01:22:00 | I have thought about doing an upgrade i have a ninja case, ive thought about getting my engineering mate to do a hole in the top for extra extraction. isnt the i7 860 the same price as the i7 920 anyway? or is the price in the mb and ram? | HamieSam (15245) | ||

Its cheaper, faster clock speeds, cheaper MB |

Your chance of data loss with 1 500gb is 1%. With 4 drives, you only need any one of those drives to fail for you to lose all your data meaning 4X1% = 4% chance of data loss. |

| 817629 | 2009-10-07 20:10:00 | well i would prefer the CM Scout :P but yeah its done me good. And its only got one 120m intake and one 120m extraction, well at least i think those r the sizes. It had a 80mm (i think) side fan but it whirs like a cow on heat. | HamieSam (15245) | ||

| 817631 | 2009-10-07 21:27:00 | If you want fast i/o, get a SSD, i believe you would need over 40 spindles to get random read\write close to the SSD... o/s = SSD Games\data = SATA2 |
