817587 2009-10-06 23:11:00 If you buy the Linksys WRT54GL, it's literally as simple as clicking "Upgrade firmware" in the Web GUI :) no messing around with tftp etc :D Chilling_Silence (9)

Try the link I have. Even with the WL-520GU, not TFTP is required:)

817589 2009-10-06 23:19:00 Reasonable simple as long as you follow the instructions.

Buy router>flash firmware via ftp(or u/g from dd-wrt using Asus firmware utility) (www.society9.com)>Set it up(we can walk you through the process:)

Can this be any help ?

817590 2009-10-06 23:25:00 You could always use this:
pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

Netlimiter only monitors, doesn't restrict:)

That K9webprotection looks interesting. I think it's a great way to limit your father from watching too much news on the internet.

I'm the opposite compared to you. Though I don't use P2P, uTorrent etc, I use a lot of the bandwidth when it comes to YouTube.

Thats why my father changed ISP from Vodafone to Telecom BT plan.

I'm going to miss the fast connection speed but at least both my father and I don't have to worry about usage. :)

Yes, but then you must have the other software installed.

This way you literally just login to the factory-stock webgui and hit "upgrade firmware" on the WRT54GL's! :D

*so* much easier, for the $10-odd difference ...

817593 2009-10-07 07:38:00 There's a certain person in my house that thinks nothing of how much data he consumes. I fixed him by slowing the internet connection to 128k. Change the QoS setting for internet bandwidth from auto to whatever you want. My connection's as slow as a slug during the day, but good enough for web browsing. I change it back to 20000 in the evenings ( I know it doesn't connect that fast). Saves me a bundle every month. The day he chips in will be the day his PS3 works properly again. I don't mind a few hours a few days a week. I ain't paying for all day every day. Phil B (648)
817594 2009-10-07 08:40:00 A useful app for this sort of thing would be networx. I used it for a while but it had a few problems when I used it with some DEV software (it reported useage incorrectly) and I didnt really need it any way. you can set weekly, daily or monthly quota, tell it to notify you when that quota is at a set percentage ect.
download.cnet.com

it also has an U/L D/L monitor for taskbars aswell

817595 2009-10-07 09:11:00 QOS Rules. Slow down videos or his laptop so much that he won't watch videos anymore. beeswax34 (63)
