818115 2009-10-08 08:47:00 Hey there

I've been searching for programs I can use to manage my CPU cores better allocating it to what needs more power etc. I am aware I can do this in task manager - which I don't like doing, lousy interface to get to and manage etc- so I'm wondering if there is an alternative you people know of, or even use, and recommend.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.7Ghz, 3G DDR2 800Mhz RAM, 1G ATI Radeon 4870, running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit.

- Should I move over to 64bit? - which actually would be better - but still.

818117 2009-10-08 09:36:00 As a rule, the operating system's CPU scheduler should do this for you. You shouldn't need to assign stuff to specific cores unless something is very wrong, or you're trying to limit how much CPU a particular task is allowed to use (and in that case, running it at a low priority is a better solution).

Whether 64bit will give you a performance boost depends on the tasks you're trying to do with it.

It's very effective. Sees what crap is stealing your CPU usage unnecessarily, and lowering it's prioritization automatically! Excellent. :)

Ive noticed with a couple of things that windows doesnt always 100% know what to do with an i7 when it comes to games, DiRT took a simple mod to the hardware profile to run. It crashed when it tried to load up the cores but hyperthreadin confused it
