| 817612 | 2009-10-06 21:33:00 | Just did a build on www.ascent.co.nz goes like this: Case - Cooler Master CM storm scout - $190 MB - Asus p6t 1366 socket - $470 CPU - intel i7 920 2.66ghz - $540 HD - 2x Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 750gb 7200rpm 32mb cache - $265 Optical - LG dvd writer GH22NP20 Memory - OCZ intel i7 xmp triple channel kit, xtc heat spreader 3x2gb ddr3-1600 - $290 GPU - XFX GX-260X-AHBF black edition GTX 260 896mb - $388 PSU - Corsair TX750 ATX PSU - $255 OS - Vista Home premium 64bit with free upgrade to win7 - $260 --------------------- totaling $2680 (they dont build just send parts) I am wanting to build around a $2000 and want to know what parts to change slightly, or if it would be cheaper to buy elsewhere. Also want to know if it is a good build mix :) play games like Counter strike source, WoW, Anno4, HoN. Also might be doing some design work on it. Thanks for your help in advance. |

You can downagrde the psu to a 620/650 cause you dont really need a 750W psu unless your planning to get 3 graphic cards or 100+ hdds You can also get CL to build the system for you heres an example of a system cl has built in a lancool: iforce.co.nz (www.iforce.co.nz) |

Replace the i7 920 with an 860. Should be sufficient for what you plan to do. Even an i5 would do.. Also, unless you really need the extra features, then get the cheapest P7P55D-LE. That should shave another $300 off... And replace the GTX 260 with a 4890 or 4870. Oh side note, heard was better to have 2 hard drives running in raid 0 is it to get better speeds. And speedy, if one drive fails the other doesn't, you just lose whatever data was on that drive:p |

If you lose one half of the file, then you have basically lost the whole file; one half of a file is useless without the other half... |

It doesn't split them as such it just uses the two drives (say 750Gb a piece) as one 750Gb drive with the ability to read/write simultaneously (hence the theoretical increase in speed) - Blam was just being slightly pedantic (but correct) :) RAID 0 is a totally interdependent array; if either drive fails, the other is still 'ok' but data is inaccessible. That's why RAID 1+0 was invented. |

And brands: MB and GPU - Asus or Gigabyte. Optical: Pioneer, Sony or ASUS And if you have a PC already, why not just do an upgrade? |
