693610 2008-07-30 11:07:00 I run two pcs behind a router, no problems.

About 6:10pm today, my partner says she can't connect. I reset the router (by unplugging the connection) which usually works, but didn't this time.

I called telstraclear, the call centre guy said that the Parapauramu line was down, but me being in Johnsonville, wouldn't be affected. He was polite, put me on to the faults line.

Once I explained that we were behind a router, the tech said it was the routers fault and hung up on me.

I called back, the call centre guy (different person) traced the cable connection, said we should be fine, but pushed me to the front of the faults line. I got a different guy. He said I had called before, my router was the problem, and hung up.

I called back, said I had connected the modem to my pc, not the router, and the previous support people hung up as soon as I mentioned Router. I then got put through to a person who talked me through setting up a network, which after 20 minutes, she had the balls to tell me that she had just got a message about some networks being down, and that they had no ETA. She also mentioned the techs I spoke to have no idea of real users.

She made my day.

693611 2008-07-30 11:22:00 Telstra wont normally do any support for Routers or Networking.

They will support a single PC on their modems but thats all, this is because there are so many different routers with different configurations, and as you have found out the " skill Level" is sometimes very questionable.

Ours went down today as well while I was out working, every PC had the good old limited or no connectivity message - nothing would connect, after a reboot of the Modem and Router, all was well again.
