693498 2008-07-30 02:36:00 . . . . .FX Networks has won the internet connectivity business of Wellington-based movie-makers Weta and Wingnut, makers of Lord of the Rings, King Kong and other productions.

FX Networks has connected its internet backbone to the Weta and Wingnut Group of companies following the rollout of the Miramar suburban fibre-optic network by Weta and Citylink. FX Networks will provide connectivity to studios, customers and partners around the world.

Tom Greally, general manager at Weta Digital says FX Networks was chosen as a means to achieve "fast, reliable and simple access for a known and affordable cost".

FX Networks provides Weta with 1Gbit/s connectivity across its internet backbone to partners and in excess of 100Mbit/s to the rest of the world on a flat-rate, fixed-price basis.

Count me in!!! :banana

I'll possibly put the whole of Mot on it at the same time, so it may pay for you to work some overtime this month. ;)

In all seriousness though, that's very very nice. I wonder what the 'fixed price' is?

Is that "fixed" like a cat after a vet trip, or "fixed" like a crooked horse race?

(If Telecom was involved, probably both.)

Gee, I didn't realize you were a Nigerian Prince Wratt - I'm honoured to make your acquaintance!! :p

Hey slightly OT, but having read the news about the Mapua cleanup, I'm glad I never got around to eating any smoked fish there!! I might've grown a third arm or some such!! ;)

That's the important bit. Weta probably paid for its own local loop and is big enough to buy the rest at the same rates as a telco.

Yes, doesn't bother me too much, as I'm not close enough to be affected by it, and the fish there is too expencive for me, but it is slightly concerning.

I knew a certain person who was an environmental monitoring type person, he/she said things were badly amiss, around this time in 2005, but could not say any more, obviously at the risk of losing his/her job.

They should have dug a massive trench around the whole thing and filled it with concrete, then made the whole thing a parking lot. :groan:
